**post Early Writes Here**

were ALL of the early writes mailed out already? Is it possible to still receive one next week?

In the past, a few early writes have been mailed each week throughout March with the bulk of the decisions sent no later than April 1st (last year's had a metered date of March 29th).

how many people per year get early writes? and why?

Congratulations! I hope you'll decide to come to college with us. There are about 150 EDers on a Facebook group you could join. We're all HUGE Eph fans. It's a great group of people. You can't go wrong.

did anyone near texas get one????

From the February 22, 2006 Williams Record

"On Friday, the College admission office will mail out the first wave of early write acceptance letters to a select group of exceptionally qualified students. ...
The admissions officers hold 'early write meetings' once a week throughout February. Nesbitt said that after two such meetings, roughly a hundred students had been admitted. In total, 150 to 200 students will receive letters. Next Thursday, the last of these meetings will be held, and then the office will move onto regular committee deliberations. He touted the College's long-running early write program, noting that it gives more time for accepted students to arrange transportation to previews and for people within to the College to contact the students individually.
'It's an attempt to bring more of a personal touch to these applicants,' Nesbitt said."

If a high school has more than one applicant, and all are not considered for receiving early writes, Williams won't send one to any of the students -- all will be notified at the same time (by April 1st).

wow thanks for the info onemoremom. eases the mind a bit :)

I got one on Sunday!

I'm in Georgia.

How Do You Know That A School With Multiple Applicants, There Will Not Be "early Write" Letters?

Congrats everyone!

COME TO WILLIAMS

:)

"How Do You Know That A School With Multiple Applicants, There Will Not Be 'early Write' Letters?"

There would be, only if all were to get them.

Since the purpose of the early-write is to engender good will towards the college, Williams does not want to cause the opposite -- which would occur if one applicant from a school received an early write and another (or others) did not.

I wish Dartmouth had that policy. One of my friends received a likely letter and I didn't. I'm very happy for her, obviously, and she deserves it, but it doesn't do much for my already frayed nerves.

Fin.aid reminder letter came, but with no EW. Oh Well.

ohhh should i be worried if i haven't gotten a finaid letter yet?

I would think that Williams would more importantly like to engender good will with their most qualifed applicants, like dartmouth, becaus.e undoubtedly these students will gets admits to multiple quality schools

onemoremom,
I don't think that is true about not sending an early write to one in a school if there are others applying and not all will get them. Two years ago, when D applied, one of her classmates got an early write & D had to wait for RD in April. The classmate went elsewhere, D made the right decision. 8-)

I think the FA letters (for EW at least) are coming 3/15.

Clayleas: I may be working with old information -- although it may have been true in the past, it may well not be valid now. I haven't asked the Admission Office directly about the current early-write policy, but I know that procedures do change. And acceptance from Williams, no matter when sent/received, is well-earned and definitely deserving of congratulations.

clayleas and onemoremom-

I heard an admissions officer say several years ago that that was the general policy. As I think about it, I believe that the answer was worded in terms of "likely" letters, which makes me wonder how much of a grasp I have on this whole subject. I only learned here on CC recently that they are actually Early Writes.

Maybe this is the general policy but there are exceptions. Maybe the policy is changing in this area, as in so many areas of the Williams admissions policies.

Regular decision applicants - Don't get discouraged if you don't receive an Early Write. Only a few applicants receive an Early Write. Regardless of whether there are other Williams applicants at your school, the reason you haven't received one may well have nothing to do with your qualifications. If Williams accepts you, whether in December or in early March or in late March, Williams wants you very, very much. Don't despair. Right now, the end of March/beginning of April must seem like an eternity from now, but it will be here soon, undoubtedly with lots of good news.

Early Writees - Congratulations. Anyone want to share the gist of your letter with us?

i was thinking about that and from what i have heard about the early writes at cornell, harvard etc. perhaps not all early writes are the most qualified/best applicants (some probably are), but maybe they just fill a demographic that the school needs e.g. female engineers, obscure majors, rural kids, URMs etc.
