Any one have experience with PhD funding in the UK? Is it similar to US funding or much lower? I am hearing it may be lower, but have not yet found details.

I have PhD funding in the UK. However, mine is EU finding and if you're overseas (not UK or EU) it may be different. Usually you have to get a PhD place first before you can apply for funding. In some cases the funding is automatic if you get the place and no further applications are necessary. My funding comes froma UK Research council. There is one for each of the sciences. For arts students it is much much harder to get funding. For hard sciences, they fallover themselves to give you money. I get both tuition fees and living costs, but many overseas students just get tuition fees and have to fund the living costs themselves. For living costs I get £15,000 a year as a tax free gift. I have no idea what the tuition is as I never see any bills. This is just taken care of for me.
