Does anyone know any programs that are designed for students who have a science degree but do not meet all of the requirements to go into most med school programs? I have not seen any in the us but a lot of 5 year programs with US clinical the last two years. I didn’t know if there was any all US options like these?
Yes, there are variety of post baccalaureate programs in the US.
There are the 2 types:
-
grade enchancing, for students who have all or most of the pre-reqs done, but need to improve their GPAs
-
career changer, for students missing most or all of their pre-reqs.
Structured post baccs offer coursework and advising. Some even offer opportunities to get involved in lab research and clinical volunteering.
AMCAS has a searchable database here–

Whatever you do, you should not attend any overseas post bacc programs since most of them are not recognized by US medical schools and any coursework taken outside the US and Canada won’t fulfill med school pre-reqs.
You can also certainly do a do-it-yourself post bacc by taking any missing pre-reqs at your local 4 year college as a non-degree seeking student. (My older D did that; she’s now a physician in her final year of residency.) While finishing your pre-reqs, get your pre-med ECs done–community service, clinical volunteering, physician shadowing–then take the MCAT and apply.
JHU, Case Western, and WashU off the top of my head all have postbac programs.
Columbia and Bryn Mawr (unlike the undergrad, the post-bacc is coed) also seem to do pretty well.
I have looked into many of the post bacc programs but I am thinking more of a 5-6 year MD program like I have seen overseas. Do you know of any programs like that in the US?
