@Mega, Kind of a complicated high school situation you have… I’m not sure how up to date the adcoms are on high schools, but in general I think most people who heard about a HS on campus of City College wouldn’t think it was a terrible school. So you might want to do some explaining on your app.

As for the APs, I think you may have already reached diminishing returns on knocking yourself out for self-study. If its something you can do without a whole lot of effort, I’d say go for it. But if the study is intensive and sucks time away from other more meaningful activity, it probably isn’t worth your time. I can’t imagine that 3-4 “extra” APs through self-study will get you in (or keep you out).

@Marlon & @Idrassa, your stats look fine… read the last couple of pages of this thread… ask any specific questions. Idrassa, you might want to talk to the soccer coach. Kinda late in the game (if you are graduating this year), but worth an e-mail as an athletic recruitment is probably a lot better bet for you (international applicants are always very difficult). Good luck!

DO NOT POST STATS FOR CHANCES! Will take questions. Read post #63!!!

HI!
I was wondering how much SAT’s are taken into consideration because I definitely did not have a super great score. Also, would two B’s affect my chances?!

Thirdly I have written a scientific research paper over the summer and was planning on submitting it to Harvard. I was wondering if they got someone from the science department to read it… or how do they evaluate such papers?

So I am the first woman in my family to get any education whatsoever. I wrote my essay on this. Even with a 31 ACT, do you think I have a decent shot provided my ec’s are decent.
Also, when I was copy and pasting, a period got left off at the very end of a sentence on the additional info section (no IB, honors, or AP at my school). It was a very stupid mistake. I heard that admission officers just throw out those applications… So do you think it is all over?
Thank you for your time :)

By the way, I forgot to say I am a first generation Afghan American.

Hello!
I wonder how much being a research assistant over the summer looks on the Harvard application. Especially if you sent research supplements and all.

I am currently a high school sophomore.
I don’t go to the best public school ever. In fact, I’m not even sure whether any graduate of my school even got into Harvard. Seems unlikely.
But I take a rigorous course load, full of extra-circulars, volunteer work, all the warm and fuzzy stuff. I plan on going into politics or law.
I just have a couple of questions:
I come from a VERY conservative Republican family, and I am planning on volunteering for Obama 2012 next year and also becoming a registered Democrat when I can vote. (this sounds stupid) Will this help my chances?
I also am a very strong Christian, not because my parents made me go to church, but because I am passionate for the cause. I have heard a couple of rumors that Harvard won’t consider you if you a show strong Christian background, and was wondering if any of that rings true?
How important is the high school that you go to? (referring to the lower-rated that I am currently attending, and can’t get out of because all of the area private schools are way too pricey (some even pricier than most colleges)
Thank you for your time!

So 1987Crimson, I read your post previously about how certain essay topics people told you didn’t impress you and that some of them were handicaps. Out of curiosity, what essay topics in your opinion really strike home as far as Harvard admission is concerned? What are some great essay ideas in your opinion?

PS: I already go to college; I’m not a HS applicant. I’m just curious as to what you think.
