Hey so I'm in Southern CT and I have yet to recieve my letter. I know all of you got them yesterday but I didn't even get it today. This feeling flat out sucks.

Perhaps it's time for Williams to go digital.

I was wondering when you are deferred, are your chances better than the regular decision candidates??? Will my application just go in with all of the regular decision candidates (which will be like 4,000 at that point) and reviewed with them again ?? That is what I am guessing. I just don't want to get my hopes up.

RyeCT.. I was totally rooting for you. You have such an amazing background, and have overcome some really impressive obstacles.. Guys.. please keep in mind that Williams takes a good number of deferred candidates during the regular decision round. Don't take any of this personally.... You will all have some amazing choices.

All of this news about the types of candidates that are getting deferred makes me want to call up the admissions office and scream " What the f--- are you thinking?????"

Thanks MikeyD, but I'll put the emphasis on other schools for now. I'll take my chances at Princeton and Dartmouth over the "...15 or 20 acceptances upon review of deferred candidates." Perhaps I'll badger Williams admissions again come January or February. Don't worry, I won't go to Amherst!

As hard as I fell in love with Williams, things happen for a reason and I'm aware that at these elite schools, gaining admission involves a great deal of luck. Fate and fortune were not on my side this month. Or maybe they have a greater plan in store for me...

Thank you guys for all the help I've been fortunate enough to receive through this forum.

To those of you who got in, I hope you enjoy your four years enough for all of us.

ryeCT, wow, that is a shocker, you seem to have everything -- great numbers, athletics, plus overcoming adversity. Weren't you a soccer recruit? Have you spoken with the coach at all to figure out what happened? You will certainly get in someplace fantastic if Williams doesn't come through in RD, that is for sure. Seems like some amazing people getting rejected / deferred. Five years ago, it likely would have been a different story -- but Williams along with the other top LAC's has had a huge increase in both size and quality of pool of candidates, and at schools that size, it really is a numbers game. Outside of true academic superstars, URM's or economically disadvantaged applicants with a hook, or highly-recruited athletes, very few people seem to be getting in E.D. Must have been a particularly brutal pool this year. Good luck and I have no doubt you and the other immensely qualified rejectees/deferees will have as fantastic an experience as you would have had at Williams -- really, the difference between Bowdoin, Williams, Haverford, Dartmouth, etc. is very, very small in teh grand scheme of things, far more important is what you put into it once you are accepted.

My stats were supposed to be strong enough so that the coach wouldn't need to tip me.

In other words, I was a potential "academic admit" with pull from the coach.

I am exploring my options at other great LACs and Ivy League schools, however, and I will be just fine. I loved Williams and I still may get in, but again, things happen for a reason.

Huh, that is frustrating. Williams has a huge soccer roster already, perhaps after the coaches' tips got in, they just didn't have any more room for soccer recruits and you kind of fell victim to the numbers game. As an alum, I'd rather see guys like you on campus than recruits without the total academic/personal package you provide, but what do I know. You have a healthy perspective; hopefully Williams will see the light and accept you regular decision, and even if not, it sounds like you have some great alternatives ...
