This past month I have received a slew of emails from all sorts of colleges around the country citing the PSAT as their source of my personal information. I understand I marked a box allowing this but my question is:

Does the score you receive on the PSAT have any correlation to the types of colleges you receive mailings from. (Such as if you received a higher score you are contacted by more prestigious schools?)

Don't pay any attention to the mail you get. I know people who scored god awful on the PSAT and still get mail from colleges(some good ones as well)

university of puget sound
university of miami
university of washington in missouri (i love that)
pitzer college
claremont mckenna
USC (that was funny)
Stanford (and their summer program)

ask your kid if she looked at what the box said when she checked it off, because it said something to the effect of "Colleges will not see your score."

I was just curious, I was like Columbia University and College of the Ozarks. Nice assortment. :-P

Hmmmm I didn't score well either so I was like wow how did that happen.
Funny my mom went on some rant after we got a 20 page mailer from Ithaca College
she said, "This place is like Cornell.... but NOT. All they do is cut down trees, next time they send something I'm gonna make you go there and cut down all there trees in that picture, yea there quad would look real nice like that. too bad it all ready looks bad cause they got 12ft of snow there."

I also got a mailer from WashU st. Louis. She threw that out
and now I'm banned from applying (not that i was). Her brother went there and all he did was party and freeload off of rich friends.

I believe that colleges see a score range, i.e. not your specific score, but that you scored within a certain range or at least above a certain point. They also see your intended major, if given. My sister gets almost exclusively art schools, while I got everyone from random-obscure-backwoods-U to Ivies.

Yes, the sheer volume of these mailings will drive you CRAZY before long, but don't totally disregard them. They're a great way to learn about schools you might otherwise never have even heard of.

My mom throws away most of mine. Notables are F&M, NYU, Union and Brown. Most of the other schools are either religious universities or just the random schools in the boondocks. I checked Journalism as a major and I got a 195. I like getting the mail. It makes me feel distinguished, even though I know it doesn't mean anything.

Some schools are also really known for sending out massive, MASSIVE amounts of mailings. NYU, Washington & Lee, and WUSTL all come to mind (or at least this was true 4-5yrs ago). I still hold a grudge against certain schools based entirely on the feeling of being PSAT-stalked...
