I'm not certain on my acceptance into Ross and I wanted to hear some advice on what to major in if I don't make it in. I'm considering transfering but I am not sure if it is better to major in something other than business and Econ at Michigan or transfer and get a business degree from another college. I would just major in Econ, but I didn't do well in 102 and I know that the more advanced classes would kill my GPA.

Does anyone have advice on other business-oriented majors at Michigan? Or would I be better off transferring to a different school and getting a BBA? For other people who've made this decision, what have you chosen?

Thanks!

Major in something that you are interested in. Get a job. Go back and get a MBA.

^This is spot on. Grab two majors in LSA that you can spin into a business job, such as COMM and PSYCH for marketing or ECON and a Ross minor for finance. Not getting into Ross is not the end of the world, and switching universities just to get a lesser business degree would be foolish.

^Ross minor is actually more competitive than Ross BBA. If you can’t get into the BBA program, then most likely the minor will not happen.

Try something like Financial Mathematics which is probably harder than anything you’ll ever do in Ross but employers will like how quantitative it is.

Could still continue on with Econ since all the Ross preadmits/Ross future admits/IOE/Chem kids will be done with those. But there maybe some Ross kids trying to double major/minor in Econ still.

Computer Science looks pretty good.

Or…Organizational Studies…everyone in the program says its good and the classes are small, but it does sound like something that would go straight into the trash bin after HR looks through it.

^if he thinks he’s going to struggle in econ (which is arguably extremely easy at the undergrad level if you are math competent), he will die in comp sci and probably fin math too.
