and then also post your PSAT math and SAT I math scores...don't just post your best...post all your scores...and also mention the amount of effort you put into preparing for the PSAT math and SAT math...

Interesting/strange/annoying questions. I didn’t bother finishing that test. It was annoying me.

PSAT Math: 66
First SAT I Math score: 740
Second SAT I Math Score: 800

No point in trying to correlate a fake math IQ test with SAT math scores (assuming that’s what you’re trying to do). I got an 800, but this IQ test is pretty annoying, and I doubt I would do very well. It’s also just based on finding patterns, unlike the SAT.

I put in a decent effort to study for the math. I wasn’t too good at math before the SAT because I would forget what I learned in math class, but once I started studying for the SAT math I learned all the formulas and concepts again and got a much deeper understanding of them. How did I study? Review concepts/formulas, and do lots of practice questions, and go over mistakes.

–IQ = 133
–PSAT Math = 70
–SAT Math Score = 720 (note: i missed one question because i read root(25) as a normal 25, if i had gotten this question right i would be at a 750 = two wrong)
–On practice SATs now i get two wrong max for math.
–I used the Blue Book and Barron’s 07-08 from my PSAT up until now but i never read the Barron’s Math Portion. I never memorized formulas but rather practiced with Blue Book only for math.

I did not study at all before for the SATs, but know I’m starting my BB practice tests along with my ACT prep. At the moment I usually get two wrong total due to careless errors or just over-thinking.

75 PSAT (no prep)
800 SAT math (3rd try…got low 7s first couple times…only prep i did was practice to get rid of careless mistakes)
IQ Test i got 145…

i think some of that pattern recognition plays somewhat of a role in mathematical ability…of course there’s much more to it (like logic skills)

IQ and SAT math scores dont have much relation.

S = kt describes the score you get on math much better
S is your score, k is how fast you study and how efficiently you learn (maybe IQ can be factored into here somewhere) and t is the amount of time you put into studying.

As you can see even if someone has a very high IQ , a person with a lower amount of IQ can put in extra time (t) and still get the same score.

calculix…see that’s why i ask how much prep they put into it…

i think SAT math is a pretty good indicator of fluid intelligence…it’s all logic and how well you can figure stuff out…there’s nothing complex in there…but some of the last few questions require outside the box thinking…

and the amount of prep is pretty key…lets take an SAT math score of say…690…now i hear of people who might have gotten like a 590 the first time, then prepped liked crazy to get to the 690 and was really happy about it…and then i’ve heard of some guy (on CC that is) that made USAMO and got a 690…obv the USAMO person should be 800 caliber (and much more beyond than that), but probably just took it once and had a bad day…

so someone with a greater iq has a better start but someone with a lower one can get higher scores with the right amount of speed/efficiency and time.

i will make a graph…as soon as i have enough points…

i feel like mostly the smartest kids just post on here…seems like almost all of these people got 135+…yet i’ve only gotten 18 posts and 180+ visits…

but then again, it is collegeconfidential…what would i expect??
