Post When you find out

collegechica09: As you may know, JMU has a pretty big party scene. However, you don't have to drink. From what I've heard, there are plentyyy of things to do that don't involve drinking. JMU itself is apparently a dry campus, so all the big parties take place off-campus. There should be a lot of on-campus alternatives to partying.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've heard...I just get nervous and picture myself sitting in my dorm with no friends because they are all out drinking haha.

But I guess I should just wait until I hear from JMU first, right?! Hahah.

And I have a feeling pretty much every college is a party school ;)

Yeah, no matter where you go there will be a party scene. JMU just tends to have a little bit more partiers I guess :)

Our obsession towards JMU just proves the point that their school spirit is not lacking by any means, which is awesome because it's not like they're NCAA Division 1 like UVA or Tech. 100% of the people I know at JMU are completely in love with it, and they were excited to go back after break (ex. Facebook statuses: "Back in hburg! JMU <3").

Haha, I know, I love it. I visited the campus in the summer before my junior year of high school, and from the second I stepped foot on it it just felt right. I didn't really experience that feeling with any other schools... and I visited about 15, applied to 10.

So I'm guessing JMU is your number one, kwoc?

And I know what you mean about people loving it, I've never heard one bad thing said about JMU from the students... or anyone. I know a girl who went to JMU, transferred to another school half way through her freshman year, and is now transferring back because she realized how great it was in "the friendly city" of H-Burgggg.

Really hoping I get in. Just a little scared since I'm out of state, but everything else meets the JMU standards (GPA, SAT's, etc.). But I'm still freaking out (and right now I'm trying to write an AP Macroeconomics paper...not going so well because I have butterflies!)

Yeah JMU is definitely my number 1. Used to be NYU, but the more I think about JMU, the more it feels right for me (and I'm in state, so the tuition is actually manageable, unlike NYU). I'm kinda worried because my GPA is kinda low (3.56) but I have a 1310/1950 SAT and I'm involved in a crapload of stuff at school. I'm hoping they'll look past the low GPA (even though I took lots of hard classes) and see the whole person. It really depends on the person who ends up look at your application.

Yeah, I have AP Music Theory and Anatomy hw, it's kinda not happening right now haha

idk if we will hear tonight, i mean its getting late, im sure that the email or application status would be updated tomorrow morning if you are supposed to hear before you get a letter.

Yeah I don't think anything will be sent tonight.

Maybe tomorrow around 8 am? I applied to PSU, and I know that their site is updated once daily at 8 am. Just guessing maybe that's around when JMU updates? Idk, I could be wrong. I've been overanalyzing everything for the past 2 weeks haha.

I'm hoping noon tomorrow by the latest. I'm just going to try to get it in my head that it wont come before then..but ill still check like a maniac probably

collegechica09: I totally feel the same way about drinking and stuff and i play a lot of sports and stuff so i plan to be playing basketball, other intermurals, and i am hopefully going to play club, so i can imagine there is a lot to do. Especially if your into sports :)

My GPA is much more impressive than my SAT scores... GPA is a 3.9, SATs are 1140/1710. I'm an officer of two clubs at school, and I have over 400 hours volunteering at the hospital. My essay was pretty decent, so I agree with you, kwoc, that they will see the whole person.

Anyone wanna write my essay (that I can not concentrate on for the life of me) about free trade and productivity?! Hahah. The way I look at it is that my 2nd marking period is over in like a week... and by then I should know about JMU! Yay :)

I'm not the most athletic, but I was thinking about the school paper... maybe a political club... and maybe some kinda fun club sport (like badminton ;) ).

I'm glad to know you're on the same page as me, baseballguy022.

BTW, just out of curiosity, what is everyone planning on majoring in? I'm looking at Education... haven't decided on elementary or secondary yet...leaning towards elementary.

JMU is D1. Their football team is just D1-AA (like Howard,Hampton, etc.) or whatever name the NCAA officially changed it to.

JMU is definitely an intense party school. I'd say the ratio has to be 9:10 for drinkers/party people compared to more academic focused students.

Aside from sport teams; either club or intramural, or frats/sor., I've come to the conclusion that if you aren't down to go hammer time then you'll most likely stay confined in your apt./dorm. The actual JMU police keeps a decent leash on the dorms/campus area, but an easy walk down Port Republic Road and you're off campus.

Drinking might be big at JMU, but it's big at most schools, I don't think it means that I will have a miserable college experience if I don't get drunk every weekend hah.

And i agree with kwoc, there are plenty of things to keep busy.

I want to major in Music Education. Getting into the JMU School of Music is a completely different level of stress and anxiety haha

PS-Badminton is awesome!

My dd plans on double majoring in psychology and justice studies.

Her sport of choice is Tae Kwon Do. She's due to receive her black belt this spring. :)

Agreed on the badminton. The one thing i liked in gym class haha.

And good luck with the music education...that's awesome. Im in choir and love it but I could never do that stuff haha!

Hopefully tomorrow we'll hear!!

Post ASAP if you hear, kwoc! good luck! :)

hsmamainva: That's awesome! Best of luck to your dd.

I'm so glad i started this thread :) its awesome and reinforcing to hear everyone's input and to hear that there are quite a few other people going crazy with anticipation.

I will definitely post ASAP once I get the decision.

For those of us that get deferred or (god forbid) rejected, we should start a group therapy thread. On the bright side, I read somewhere that JMU ends up taking 60% of the people they originally deferred.

Yeah, thanks a lot for starting it! :) Freaking out together is much better than freaking out alone!!
