Post your AP Scores! 2006

southasianmom: I took the ACTs in 8th grade too and I chose to do them myself. I also took the SATs in 7th grade, a choice I made for myself. I don't see this as too controlling and I don't see why this is a racial issue (i'm white if it matters any...which it shouldn't).
BTW those scores sound fine for an eighth grader...I know some seniors who didn't do that well...

Anyway...My AP scores ( the thread topic)-
Sophomore- AP European History - 5

Junior - AP US History - 5
AP Biology - 5
Forthcoming- AP French Literature

My parents obsess over everything school related. It has lead me to hate them and it has totally unmotivated me.

Strangely, this summer, they've gotten off my case, and I'm actually working a lot more towards impressing colleges than I have the rest of my life put together.

my parents told me every year to take an easier schedule, and it just made me want to take a harder one. They told me not to take the SAT in middle school (1150 in 8th grade), they told me not to take 6 APs senior year (5 5's and 1 4). So, contrary to popular belief, its not always the parents that force the kids to do everything, sometimes kids are actually self motivated, and I think this should be encouraged and not discouraged as being "too asian"

Im white by the way

by the way is an 18 ACT considered to be about 1000 SAT?

ckmets, me too. My parents are CONSTANTLY telling me to go easier on the school work, etc. When they say A-s are fine, it just makes me work harder for As. When they tell me that midrange colleges are basically the same, it just makes me shoot for the top even more. Most of my friends who have parents who crack the whip are generally dissatisfied, NOT self-motivated, and I worry about what will happen when there's nobody pushing them from behind. That said, many of my friends with more lax parents, myself included, have learned to motivate themselves, which is a much more critical step in one's education than anything a parent can bestow. If you let kids learn to love learning on their own, you have done them a much bigger favor than you otherwise would have by forcing them into a world they will come to detest.

Each family has its own dynamic. We have always encouraged our kids to do their best & set their own goals. We support them by allowing them to develop their course schedule with their counselors & teachers, allowing them to attend the private school where they are academically challenged which they have chosen to apply to & be accepted at.

Some students enjoy taking tests & it makes sense to allow them to do so if we have the means to support them and it something they really want. Don't see how that makes folks "bad parents" when we support our kids to do/take what they choose, even if the choices made are not the choices WE would have made. Personal attacks are not appropriate in any case and not constructive.

Freakin' exact. Too much interference is almost always detrimental

Just wondering: What do the AP score reports look like when received in the mail? Is each subject on a separate piece of paper with a detailed report and the score at the bottom, or is it all on one page simply listed out, as such-- AP Euro: 4, AP Stats: 4.

...?

I had not taken any physics before this past year, so we just covered the physics C mechanics portion, but I don't think that was really effective. For AP bio and AP chem I had to take summer school beforehand, and that helped a lot. A 4 isn't bad, though, so I guess it worked out.

In reply to the discussion about parents pushing their kids, I would have to agree that some kids might need more prodding than others, yet I was always happy that my parents allowed me to excel without pushing. But I was always into school, so I don't know what I would do as a parent, raising a child who was not motivated academically.

I never took the ACT and only took the SAT once, without attending any sort of prep class, and I still consider those four hours a waste of time. All this agonizing seems rather pointless. If you're going to do well, then you'll do well. It's supposed to test your aptitude, not how much time and money you can spend on preparation. I got an eight on the essay, though, so I guess that's the one area where people who have taken a prep class might be more prepared. Overall, I got a 700 on writing and a 770 on critical reading and 800 on math.

Having just graduated from high school, all this scrambling over college seems surreal. I guess I was just as worried as you all a year ago, but really, it'll all be over soon, and you'll never get another chance to go to high school. So enjoy.

Peace.

All on one page, just lists the grade you got. Not broken down at all. You'd think that'd be included in $82 or something.

AP Calculus AB - 5

Yay!

English Language: 4
Psychology: 4
World History: 5 (2005)

APUSH score not in yet, because we got a waiver for delayed testing (Thank you, Rita. :D )

Anyways, English is kind of my forte and I was hoping for a 5, but I'm still totally happy with my 4. And happy with my 4 in Psych, because Ia lot of people in our class, myself included, thought they had no idea what they were doing on that test. I guess I knew enough though, and I'm pleasantly surprised! ^^

Thunderbird1990 - I took German. I went into the exam expecting a two (I figured it would be as hard as the Spanish exam, which was impossible), and came out thinking I'd gotten a three, possibly a 4-5. No idea what I actually got; no scores in PA. Was your five expected or surprising? Anyone else take German?

still havent gotten them...dumb college board

Alex I was wondering how hard german is as you get more in-depth...right now I'm just learning the equivalent of german 1 and with the exception of certain consonant sounds, it's been pretty easy. I would appreciate the insight.

2005-2006
Government Comparative: 5
Government American: 4

Counting last year, I am officially an AP scholar with honors..oh joy!

My thoughts exactly; my parents never talked to me about any of the tests I went ahead and took; they wanted me to take the ACT, I refused and refuse to take it ever since I am not applying to any midwest school. I wasn't forced to shoot for taking 9 APs in one year, I did it on my own. I think people need to realize there will always be two types of people in this world regardless of what parents do: the motivated hard workers and the rest.....

NINE APs IN ONE YEAR!?!?!? Tests or classes? (like with skipped lunches or online or something lol). Either way that's INSANE

Macha lol u r the opposite of me. I took 3 SATs, 3 ACTs, and 4 SAT 2s. I studied for at least 4 hours every week (for real, like actually timed lol) (for the SAT) for like....7 months I think. I took it extremely seriously and did well. The thing that suprised me is that I got bad writing scores everytime, but then suddenely on the practice before the real one I got a 740 and then a 710 on the real. I was like wow...that came from nowhere (I love writing and I was frustrated I wasn't in the 700s n such). I also studied a ton for the SAT 2s (the us history one I was motivated enough (I don't even know how) to read an entire review book covering all of us history. I then did it again before the AP. Sometimes I suprise myself lol

US History- 5
US Government- 4
English Lit- 3 (was disappointed)
Calculus- not going to say... >_<
