Namaste took Phy Sci 5 with the same professor last quarter! Maybe he can chime in?

Otherwise it looks fine. Choose your Math 31A professor wisely... I had a man who stared at the chalkboard the entire lecture and made numerous errors in his computation and mumbled a lot. If anything, you can always drop a course by the 4th week or so without penalty. It's a bit of a gamble and for the class you choose to potentially drop (IMO phy sci 5 looks like a good candidate since it's just any ordinary GE that's offered quite frequently), I'd advise waiting a week or so before purchasing your textbook(s) for that particular class so that you become familiar with your syllabuses and get a general idea of what the courses entail.

engineering freshman

math 31a
chem 20a
chinese 1a
phys sci 5 or linguistics 1

anyone know about ancient near east 10W? i need to figure out if i should take that or comparative lit 4CW

Ancient Near East 10W is closed. Generally, it's pretty difficult to get Writing II Classes.

I've looked at an ANE 10W syllabus and it generally focused on geographic and archaeological aspects of Jerusalem. If you're more interested in history and social aspects check out an upper-division history class in the future or a seminar in the Study of Religions department or any other ANE class. Honors Collegium probably has something related to that material at one point or another.

would taking 5 classes at regristration...working through 2 weeks or so and then dropping one be advised....my cousin was going to do this on a semester-ly(?) basis

Semester system is different! One usually takes that amount of classes I think.

There's nothing wrong with dropping classes as long as you're not penalized or have any notations on your transcript. It's a safe way to see what you can handle and what you want to take. There is a window at the beginning of the quarter to safely switch and shop for courses. Plan wisely!

Chem 153L
Public Health 150
I'm planing on the third class.
Econ 107/Psych 129E/Japanese 1 Which class is better?

Math 33B
Chem 30AL (IF I GET IN)
Chem 113A
ChE 100
CEE 108 or ChE 102A

If I don't get into 30AL

Math 33B
Chem 113A
CEE 108
ChE 102A
ChE 100

avoiding Chatterjee until next year... maybe. In any case, I agree, engineering classes are held at horrible times!

God I hope the department changes the requirements. I do NOT want to take 153A

I took Phy Sci 5 this past year and I know friends that took Ling 1. All I know is that Phy Sci 5 has no homework except for the reading whereas Ling 1 there's weekly homework I believe. I think Ling 1 is easy but there's busy work involved. Phy Sci 5 could be easy if you keep up with the material but the curve is going to be high. When I took it Prof. Roberts, he said the curve was like a solid B. I got A- on both tests and 100 on the project and got a B+. So be prepare to memorize everything and it should be a piece of easy.

Math 32a 4 units or Pic 10 a 5 units
Econ 11 4
Man 1a 4
MIMG 6 4
fiat lux 1

17 or 18 units

entering freshman, taking it easy

^ management 1a isnt open to freshmen

Yeah it says Management 1a isnt open to freshmen, but I took it spring quarter of my freshman year (my units were still freshman standing).

incoming 3rd year here...

EEB 100
EEB 122
EEB 110

15 units, great....

is it bad taking 3 upper div bios in one qtr?

no, management 1A isn't open to ppl who have freshman standing. Most freshman have sophomore standing by spring quarter anyway, if not junior.

I'm sure I had freshman standing at the start of spring when I took 1A (29 units, no AP).

Oh well I guess its worth a try anyway.

well 40 units from aps + 46 from community college will hopefully put me at sophomore standing. might take first aid this summer at the community college just for fun, but i don't think that will count as a transferable course.

freshman EE

Chem 20a
Math 32a (maybe 31b)
CS 31
English Comp 3 (maybe =X)

i am not sure if I am ready for 32a... I did get a 5 on calc bc this year, but that requires what... knowing it 66% or so? lol... not really sure if i have a good background in single variable calc, so i may take 31b
i hear english comp 3 fills up quickly, so i may or may not take that (also i keep hearing i shud only take 3 classes =o)

Freshman Undeclared (Premed or prelaw)

LifeSci 1 (5 units)
Math 3a (4 units)
Hist 9d (5 units)
Med 19 (1 unit) Fiat Lux
German 19 (1 unit) Fiat Lux

For a total of 16 units, I'm not really sure If I want the German 19, as without it, I'd still have 4 classes, and then my Tuesdays would be totally empty.

winter quarter, i signed up for three fiat luxes (yes i was that crazy)
two of them were mildly interesting to me, but did not justify their 9am start times. the other one was more interesting, but due to lack of discipline i missed three classes and didn't pass. not that it matters, but it's annoying having a NP on my transcript.

what i'm saying is, go ahead and sign up for them, go to the first week, see if you like it. if you (due to laziness or whatever reason other than illness) are not motivated enough to go to the first class, take it as a sign. drop before the deadline. if you ARE interested in it, don't miss three classes! take advantage of all ten weeks. it's only 10 hours of class and a free unit.

IMO, the german fiat lux would have to be pretty darn interesting to merit interrupting a class-free tuesday. so try it out and see ;)

also, on an unrelated note: incoming frosh, PLEASE remember that you can't sign up for more than 19 units on ursa. you need to petition for excess units, and off the top of my head i'm not sure you can do that until you've established a ucla gpa. besides, i really wouldn't advise it your first quarter. winter, sure, if you feel like it. PLEASE give yourselves time to adjust! consider your extra class as being dormlife 101. it carries 0 units and requires all your extra available outside study. trust me on this! ;)

21 units if you are in engineering. but you are still a loser.
