Here’s how you can get a complete text list of all your artists/albums in iTunes, without having to type 'em all up manually:

Open iTunes and view the contents of your library. (Note: If you want to exclude certain things from your list [like videos] make a playlist of only what you want to include in your list, then view that playlist and proceed.)

Click on one of the songs, then do ctrl+a, then ctrl+c (aka, “select all”, then “copy”).

Open Microsoft Excel and ctrl+v it (paste it).

Delete all the columns except the one you want (such as artist or album).

To eliminate repeats of artist/album names, select the entire column, choose Data>Filter>Advanced Filter. Click ‘OK’ at the warning.

In the Advanced Filter window, click “Unique records only”, then OK.

Wa-lah! There ya go. It might sound like a long process, but it really only takes like 20 seconds (if you have a lot of music, you might have to wait awhile after copying it). Also, you might have to delete crap like “Unknown Artist” or “Various Artists”. But for the most part, it’s quite easy. :)

The only rule:

You can’t edit out guilty pleasures. :p

I’ll post mine later. :)
