post your reaction to your acceptance/rejection

im really curious what people do when they find an acceptance letter to their dream school, or like a rejection letter... (or waitlisted...)

JHU decision :

Came out at 2 AM where I live. I was expecting rejection so I wasn't surprised at all when I read the 'We regret to inform you' email.
Went to bed. Forgot about it.

Duke (accepted) - I went to my dad's office with a printout of the acceptance letter and started reading it as sadly as I could muster aloud.

Northwestern (waitlisted) - Laughed because I'd just gotten into Duke an hour earlier

Stanford (rejected EA) - I had no reaction because I expected it. I was in the middle of watching superbad with my gf, so I let the movie finish and then told my parents.

d4r7h3v1l, it would be much funnier if you gotten rejected from Dartmouth while watching Superbad. LOL

Columbia- I checked the email at my aunts house and when I found out I got rejected ED my whole body went into a come over the thought that I haveto go through another admissions process

Syracuse- I checked the email at my best friends who gotten in and was jumping up & down with him and his mom after finding out that I've been admitted.

Rejection from my top choice: Saw the small envelope in my mailbox. Saw how thin it really was, figured it couldn't be even a waitlist. Opened it, read the first sentence. Tore it into pieces. Tried not to start crying until I got into my room because there was a bunch of random people around. Sat on my floor crying for a while. Then tried to get excited about attending my third choice school.

Does this happen frequently?

Northwestern (rejected): Shrugged. It had been my dream school but whatever. I'd been accepted at another top school already.

Rice (rejected): Jumped up and down for five minutes. It was my ticket out of Houston and Texas!!!

Caltech (rejected): Laughed. Expected.

WashU (accepted): Screamed and jumped up and down and ran around my lawn. The neighbors stared. It was a little awkward but who cares? haha

Hopefully I'll have some nice stories after the Ivy results are out...

UChicago (accepted): I squealed and dashed upstairs to tell my Dad. Was the first school for me to hear back from, and weeks ago I was seriously worried that I might not end up anywhere, because I only applied to 1 safety. (Yes.) Delighted! I couldn't stop smiling.

Duke (accepted): I said "Oh puh-leeze!" because I couldn't believe it. Hahaha. This is because the night before the results came out, I was anticipating (dreading) having to choose between UChicago and Duke, and finally thought "well, I probably won't make it in anyway". But now I DO have to make the decision, and I'm not complaining, because it's a good position to be in.

in order of arrival.

Smith (accepted): OMG OMG I'M FINALLY IN COLLEGE.
UChicago (waitlisted): slightly disappointed, but at least I have Smith
Carleton (waitlisted): damn, second waitlist to second choice
Wellesley (accepted): YESSSSSSSSSSSSS LOVE WELLESLEY
Wesleyan (accepted): OMG they gave me so much money. I think it's jumped to my first choice!
Stanford (rejected): lol whatever
Williams (rejected): bwahahaha

waiting on Harvey Mudd and Princeton, and that will be it for me.

Johns Hopkins (Waitlisted): Thought i had better chances in here than my other schools. Cried for the evening, and saw this as a REALLY bad sign for the future.

Northwestern (Accepted): Shocked because no one from our school got in last year (even the valedictorian).

Wash U (Waitlisted): Shrugged, but most people expected me to get in here OVER Northwestern

Stanford (Rejected): My dad made me apply here, but I was expecting this for sure. The rejection email showed up in my bulk folder (how ironic...lol)

Yale (Deferred EA): Ecstatic (It's Yale :))

UCSD (accepted): non-reaction, although it's nice to know I can at least go to college...

UCLA (accepted): hmm, sort of cool (found out in front of friends)

UC Berkeley (accepted): hmm, sort of cool, but LA's nicer

Northwestern (waitlisted): d'oh! thought I had a chance, but not that surprised, I guess. still reeling a bit

UIUC (acc): In-state school... expected.

UChicago (acc EA): Um, yay?

MIT (defer -> acc RD): Where's my financial aid package...........

Caltech (defer -> acc RD): Oooh, personal message....

Pton/Harvard (right.... we'll see): -_-

Yale (defered EA): dissapointed, but it wasn't a rejection, so I celebrated
Oregon State (A): yay (lots of sarcasm... I was guaranteed to get in, state school, plus the acceptance came a week after I submited my app)
Tulane (A): hahahaha... but MONEY!!! except I kept laughing because I didn't really want to go there
Olin College of Engineering (W): shucks... I thought I would at least get into their Candidates Weekend... but I rejected them, so it felt good =)
U Pittsburgh (A): screaming, jumping, yelling out the front door, more screaming... got a full tuition merit scholarship!!! more screaming. haha
USC (A): a little excited, but not as pumped as I was for U Pitt. Didn't get very much merit aid, so I knew I couldn't go anyway
U Rochester (A): not too excited... they rejected me from their Medical Scholars Program... plus they tried to bribe me with a wimpy scholarship
WashU (A): laughter to the max. oh my goodness... I couldn't stop laughing
Cornell (A... well likely letter): screaming and jumping, soooo excited.... the $2000 a year scholarship got me really excited because I didn't think IVs gave out merit =)
Rensselaer Polytechnic/Albany Medical College (A): laughed hysterically.... the medical school was soooooo boring
Boston U (A): Whoot!!! plus a little merit money =)
Duke (A): AHHHHHHHHHHHH dream school... but zero merit $$ =(

Yale/Harvard: waiting... soooo scared

UW-Madison (accepted)-Wooh! I'm going to go to college, no matter what! yay!

Marquette (accepted)-cool! I got a huge scholarship.

Wash U (waitlist)-Lame. Whatever, Wash U. You were just my alternate to Northwestern. Gee, I hope I get in there.

Northwestern (accepted)- WOOOHOOOOOOOO! YAY! I screamed when I saw the big envelope in my mailbox, because I was too scared to check it online.

Boston College (waitlist)- What the heck? Lame. I thought I was a shoo-in here, but it doesn't matter anyway.

Waiting on Vanderbilt, Harvard, and Princeton...

UCSB: I got into a college! It may not be my dream school or one that I really plan on attending, but at least I know that SOMEONE besides my state college wants me.
UCSD: Cool beans! Nicer than UCSB, don't think I'll attend though.
UCLA: HOLY FREAKIN' GOODNESS! I love UCLA, and I'm so excited (however, the financial aid put me in a bad mood).
OCB: Rejection, ah well! At first, I thought I had a shot because of UCLA's surprise acceptance, but I have a teacher who went there, and after hearing all of his stats (from 30 years ago mind you) I knew that my chances were slim.

Wash U: accepted

everywhere else doesn't matter :-)

That day, I knew that I had another college was posting letters online. Checked that one and was waitlisted. Got really freaked out because that was a safety school. I then started to get nervous that WashU wasn't going to accept me cause I had been waitlisted at a safety. I then decided to check Wash U just to check... they were online... and i got in!!

I start screaming and jumping around in my house. My brother had a tutor and I think I scared her. My friends then knocked on my door because one left her jacket. I told them and we started screaming and jumping outside. I scared the neighborhood. I then called my family and my entire phonebook.

It was the best day ever.
