Which test do you guys think will be stronger for college? My reading and science scores pretty much just flip flopped. Since I’m probably going toward engineering, would my second score be better in admissions or would the 36 in reading from the April test make me stand out more?

English: 33 (about what I expected)
Math: 35 (better than expected)
Reading: 24 (supreme hatred)
Science: 35 (yeah)

I literally cried my eyes out when I saw my scores. I never though that I was even capable of hitting 30. To a lot of you, a 30 is probably just an okay score, but for me, academically, it’s the best thing that’s happened to me in high school and no, I am not even going to try to increase my score because so many doors have opened up for me just by getting a 30 on the ACT. My senior year has just been made because NEVER AGAIN do I have to open another ACT prep book or kill my brain cells trying to solve an ACT question. PEACE.

Taz2013 I give you major respect.

WOW!!! Congrats!! How did you manage to get a perfect score?

My writing portion has not been scored yet. How long does this usually take after other scores are posted?

For those who are interested in which schools super score…

[Colleges that superscore the ACT College Admissions Counseling](Colleges that superscore the ACT - BS/MD Admissions by College Admissions Partners)

@summeryoyoyo Superscore composite is the average of the highest subsections over all tests one has taken.

@Taz2013 Congrats! That is awesome!

At my school, it’s a big deal if you get a 28 or higher. I don’t know why I read this forum because it kills me seeing kids complaining about getting “another 34”. One person had the same score as me and felt the need to clarify that he wasn’t a moron by posting his last (and higher) ACT score :|

E: 33

Does the ACT round up when if you get a 33.5?

Housereed ~ Don’t get discouraged. The fact is that scoring high into the 30’s on the ACT is extremely rare. Here are some links for you to put everything in perspective:

National Ranks for Test Scores and Composite Score
[Score Information | National Ranks for Test Scores and Composite Score | ACT Student](<a href=“ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT”>ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT)

Looking at the link, if you score a composite of 28 or higher it puts you in the 91st percentile. That means that only 9% of the students that took the ACT scored higher than a 28. Those are great numbers!

Here’s another link to put things in perspective:

2011 ACT National and State Scores
[2011 ACT National and State Scores | Average Scores by State | ACT](http://www.act.org/newsroom/data/2011/states.html)

The average national composite score is 21.1. College Confidential, particularly the ACT forum, is only a small slice of the countless number of students who are taking the ACT. I think here in some cases, too, students are applying to colleges or programs where they do need a 33+ in order to ensure admittance into the program, so that is why they may show disappointment for getting anything lower than that.

My daughter scored a 31 composite for September, and she will gladly take that and be done w/the ACT forever. I’ll post her scores in another post. You are more than your ACT score. You are also your grades, your extracurricular involvement, your goals and dreams, etc. Last year’s salutatorian from my daughter’s high school had a 4.5 GPA and a 32 on the ACT. Our neighbor’s son who graduated #5 in his class last year had a 4.4+ GPA and a 31 on his ACT. Even the tippy top students at high schools across the country are not scoring 34’s, 35’s, or 36’s on the ACT. See what ACT score you need to get into the programs that you are interested in and make that your goal. It’s easy to think that everyone else scores so high on the ACT because there are posts about it here all the time. Take it w/a grain of salt and realize that those higher end scores just are not that common.

Darthpwner ~ Yep, the ACT rounds up. If your average had been a 33.5 they would have rounded that up to a 34. That happened to my daughter on one of her tests. She scored a 31.25 composite. Just one more point in any section would have gotten her the 32. It’s frustrating, but regardless you have a great score and should be so proud of yourself. According to the chart that I posted, a 33 on the ACT is in the 99th percentile.

My daughter scored a 31 composite on the September test. Here are her scores:

September 2012
C: 31
E: 35
M: 26
R: 32
S: 29

She’s taken the ACT 3 other times and here are her scores:

June 2012
C: 29
E: 28
M: 29
R: 30
S: 27

April 2012
C: 30
E: 34
M: 30
R: 31
S: 25

I know that colleges don’t super score the ACT, but if they did, this would be her score:
C: 32
E: 35
M: 30
R: 33
S: 30

She’ll gladly take that 31 composite and walk away from the ACT forever. She has a really high GPA and is in the top 2% of her class. She knows that the ACT score is just one component of many that colleges look at when determining admission. For those that are still going to be taking the ACT, just do your best and prepare as much as you can. When you get your score you will know that you did the best that you could. Good luck to everyone!

@LadyHam, I realize that it’s not exactly common to get a score in the 30s, it was just me being whiny lol. I’ve lurked this site for years and know that the typical CollegeConfidential user is not so typical, so it was pretty silly for me to come here right after seeing my score. I appreciate the links and encouraging words, though :)
