Post Your Short Takes!

Here goes

  1. What would you do with a free afternoon tomorrow?
Scale the Himalayas. However, since I’m not actually ready to die yet, I’d settle for a dip in the pool. But until I get one, I think I’d be just fine daydreaming.

2) Recall a compliment you received that you especially value. What was it? From whom did it come?
My favorite teacher once described me as a ‘fighter’ to a mutual friend. To me, that is the greatest recognition I have ever received.

3) If you could witness one moment in history, what would it be and why?
The moment I was born, just to be sure that the look my mother gave me when we first met is the same one I get everyday, even after all she has been through for me.

4) What do you wish you were better at being or doing?
I wish my body wouldn’t tremble like a tuning fork when I give a speech, especially since I’ve somehow given the impression that public speaking comes most naturally to me.

5) If you were choosing students to form a Yale class, what question would you ask here that we have not?
What would you do if you were rejected?

Forgive me for the last question…its appalling, but I’m honestly curious about it…XD

@leo118: I love your third answer - what moment would you like to witness! It’s sweet but it’s neither a kitsch, nor a cliche.

Thanks MisaMysa =D Its actually a very personal answer, and I’m glad it didn’t sound too…prominently cheesy XD

@leo118 I love that last question of yours…“What would you do if you were rejected?” Very interesting, I think admissions officers will like that one.

I don’t really know how good mine are but here they are:

What would you do with a free afternoon tomorrow?
I would think about it for awhile, but end up baking cookies – probably chocolate chip oatmeal. I would then challenge myself to eat them all.

Recall a compliment you received that you especially value. What was it? From whom did it come?
As the only junior in my AP chemistry class, my teacher complimented my approach to challenges and my ability to adapt to unproven situations.

If you could witness one moment in history, what would it be and why?
Robert Kennedy’s Indianapolis speech upon Martin Luther King’s assassination. Great men can give great speeches but this one prevented violence. Why was it so powerful?

What do you wish you were better at being or doing?
Sometimes I have trouble taking other people’s advice. When you regularly get good grades, it is difficult to accept that you cannot always be right.

If you were choosing students to form a Yale class, what question would you ask here that we have not?
If you could give any gift to any person in history – what would the gift be and who would be the recipient? Explain.

@ qcassidy- thanks

@ host1994- you know reading all these short takes has made me realise- its really not about them being ‘good’ or ‘bad’…just like you can’t simply classify a human being as ‘good’ or ‘bad’…but I really liked your answers (just like I loved so many others here, I wished I could know these people better). They weren’t too wacky…and gave a good picture of you. Esp the first one. Dunno how many Yale applicants would admit they’d like to bake cookies in their spare time and not ‘save the world’ XD
