since they sent a batch of cals admit notices yesterday (according to another thread), and they are sending these e-mails on aid, it sounds like they are making some progress on our apps. i now divide my time equally between work and worry!
i'm engineering by the way

i just got an email right now from them...

Dear Prospective Cornellian:
Thank you for your application to Cornell University! We're sure the college selection process is an exciting and challenging one for you and your family.
If you have no interest in applying for financial aid, please feel free to read no further and simply delete this message. However, if you are interested in applying for aid, read on.
We are writing to inform you that as of March 3, 2008, Cornell has not received a financial aid application from you. While the initial application deadline was January 4, we are still accepting applications without penalty. Please visit our website to complete the application process:

got this letter too, i have horrible stats - i doubt it means much

GPA: 3.64 weighted, top 25%

SAT II, 790 MAth I, 730 Chem

It can't possibly be a sign. If my stats weren't average enough, a friend of mine with a 1750, 3.1-ish GPA, SAT IIs in late 600s got one.

For all of you who are saying that their finaid to do list shows "no items to do" (like mine does), here's something I found on their website:

Now, what does it mean? I sent all my application on deadline date.
Does it mean they received my files but sent me that e-mail by mistake or they haven't received my files, but thought I didn't want to apply for aid (and now suddenly saw I applied for aid, but lost my files so sending this mail)?

PS I am an international with not so impressive SAT scores, but good GPA and interesting background.

If you did not ask for financial aid, I don't think you would get this letter.

D got an email too. She also got an email from another match school. She did not check yes on FA box. All her reach schools did not even send anything. Is this a good sign?

I got this letter, and I didn't apply for financial aid. I'm still not going to get my hopes up though, they probably are sent to everyone who didn't fill out a financial aid form.

Maybe every student who applied got that email too, i think. Although, i sent all of my FA materials, they sent me this email. If is a good sign, absolutely i will send them again. Is there any student who hasn't received an email or a mail?

boho_girl I have the same problem. I actually sent in my application in December, so either the post lost it or they lost it. Or, they sent me the e-mail by mistake. By the way, I'm also international. Isn't it correct that for international applicants it has an influence on the admission decision whether one applies for financial aid? If yes, it could really be a good sign, because then the finaid + the undergrad admission office have to work together.

Stats:

IB 43/45 points, top10%, unofficial 1
SAT 1900 (my Harvard interviewer told me that it's very good for an applicant from my country)
ET: Chess club, Drama club, Student magazine, Latin club, work on a farm, teaching immigrants, political activities, fencing
Recs: godlike
Essay: godlike

I emailed them back right after I got it today because I was sure I sent everything on time and just got a reply, that at least to the internationals the email was sent by mistake.

Oh damn, does it mean it sent all of applicants?

Dr. Avrah where are u from? Btw, do you play Dota :D(Because of Godlike!!!)

I don't know whether they sent it to all applicants, but many internationals definitely got it by mistake.

we might have all gotten this by mistake? i guess the question is? did anyone not get it?

My counselor told me that other Cornell applicants from my school got the same e-mail. We will call tomorrow just to make sure it's a mistake, but I'm sure it is, because our documents were checked throroughly before being sent.

Oh, wow, that makes me feel better (about my finaid docs reaching its destination)
Still, I also e-mailed them back after I read it, so I'll see what they say to me.

Update: I received reply from them. It said the same thing as andykcom's post.

Phew! :)
