May I be one of the first to offer my congrats or regrets when you get your results on Friday afternoon. If you decide to post your results, please give us some info on your stats and background. Perhaps your GPA and test scores? In-state or OOS?
When you giddily post “I got in” or “my son got rejected” but that’s it on the forum, you aren’t giving the rest us much to work with in the future.
(And even if you posted your stats weeks ago somewhere on here, please cut/paste it or type out some basics.)
@GatorDad305 We’re not going to find out until around 11:00 p.m. due to D’s dance recital (and she doesn’t want to know before or during). So I’ll past her stats here and then post after we check late tomorrow night:

Also went to U of F Summer Media Institute last summer (which sealed the deal as her #1 choice). Other ECs as well.
10 APs, 14 honors classes; Four years of Spanish (this is supposed to help?)
Triple legacy - mom, dad, sister (undergrad and doctorate)
Visited school on official tour and attended Open House over the summer

OOS (IL)

Weighted GPA: 3.93 (not sure what UF recalculation is, sorry)
ACT: 29
3 APs (span, eng lang&comp, psych), 4 dual enrollment classes (2 spanish, 2 english)
Not legacy
Varsity sport (3 yrs)
Leadership position for community service (200+ hrs, 3 years, VERY time consuming/lots of responsibility)
NHS (2 years)

I was definitely not expecting an acceptance haha, but I’m very excited! I might go down to visit later this month. Let me know if theres anything major I forgot to mention!
Accepted
Male
OOS
Major: Biology
UW GPA: ~3.85
SAT: 1580
Academics: IB Program w/ AP classes (Psych and Calc)
ECs: Eagle Scout, 2 yr Varsity sport, 3 yr Speech and Debate team, misc. jobs and service hours including being a camp counselor at a scout camp last summer
Genes: White male
Hooks: none
Why?: Probably tbh good test scores. UF is tough to get into and they flex a lot but a student with a 15xx and a matching GPA is probably accepted at at least an 80% rate, maybe more
Accepted OOS (GA)! Also got Honors and a research stipend.
GPA: ~3.9 UW, 4.7W
ACT: 36, SAT: 1540, SAT Subject Tests: Math II 800, Chemistry 800, US History 800
16 APs, all 5s except 1 so far. Most of the rest are Honors.
ECs: 4-yr varsity letterman in swimming (co-captain senior year), Academic Bowl (national team all 4 years, has been JV captain, secretary, and captain), Beta, FBLA, other honor societies
Female mixed race (Asian/Caucasian)
No hooks but she is a double (triple?) legacy, not that it matters at UF.
1290 SAT
29 ACT
4.2 Weighted GPA
3.8 Unweighted
Soccer-turned golfer during my senior year due to a severe concussion
Played golf for six months after playing soccer for 13 years
Pasco County Animal Shelter volunteer
NHS student
won 2nd individual place in district tournament for golf
Player of the year for golf
My essay was all about my struggle with Post-Concussion Syndrome during my junior year. I feel that this is what got me in.
Posted in the Class of 2023 Decisions thread, too, but for future reference:
In-state son accepted to Honors and Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (?)
UW GPA 3.7
W GPA 4.4
UF GPA 4.4375 (I think)
SAT 1510 (superscored, 1480 single date)
ACT 35
Rank top 7%
IB diploma
NMSF (presumed finalist)
AP Scholar with Distinction for 2 years
Varsity soccer with student-athlete award
Heavily involved with music including awards
NHS
Volunteer work with leadership
We are so excited! We worried that his GPA might be a little low and essays are not always his strong suit (though we thought they were good), so we weren’t confident.
My son is in-state. Accepted into UF as part of the PaCE program.
UW GPA: 3.71
W GPA: 4.1
UF Weighted: No idea
SAT: 1290
Class ranking: Top 10%
NHS Member
AP Scholar: Will finish with over 30 hours credit towards his PaCE requirements.
Cross Country (County Runner of the Year in 2017 and 2018) and Track
120-130 Hours Community Service (In-school as a tutor and with Rotary Club)
Essay: Chose his own subject and wrote on his volunteer work with fellow students.
Strengths: Drive to take the most ambitious academic regimen open to him at his small-town school. Development as a consistent contributing volunteer to his community. An essay highlighting not only his contributions as a volunteer but also the impact those he served had upon his own maturation process.
Weaknesses: Lack of leadership roles in extracurricular activities. SAT scores compared to the middle 50% of UF applicants.
Extremely proud of my oldest son. His mother is a Florida alumna and his Grandpa attended UF in the early 1960s. It is highly likely he will take this opportunity because Florida is his dream school in the academic sense. But his ambition to run on the collegiate level is another dream of his, so this may well take a twist and turn yet in the days ahead. The admission to PaCE is actually the best thing for him as it gives him the chance to see where he stands as he progresses in his final year as a long/middle-distance runner.
I extend my best wishes and regards to all on this forum, especially those who were not accepted into Florida. If UF remains the school for you, then you should not stop here. Santa Fe would be an excellent option for anyone refusing to take Florida’s “no” as the final answer.
EC’s: I’ve done multiple varsity sports for 4 years, NHS, Beta, FBLA, I’ve worked many part-time jobs in union with keeping my grades up.
Community Service: In my area, there are limited opportunities for community service so I couldn’t do much ( I know UF requires a lot of hours, not sure how I got in)
Rank (2/81) ← not a lot of kids in my school, I’m from a small town
I thought my essay was pretty good. I talked about how my parent’s dreams were put onto me, and how I planned to give back to them through my education and talents.
Accepted to PACE. Really interested in stats relating to PACE acceptances this year as several of her classmates also got PACE. Accepted (for Fall) to FSU and USF with merit money. She’s very disappointed but is going to speak to her counselor and find out how many credits she has now and if it might be worth doing PACE.
Stats:
3.85 UW 4.7 weighted with mostly AP/AICE and AICE diploma/Bright Futures scholarship
Top 7% of her class of 785, A rated school in huge county (in state)
National Honor Society/Key Club/Business Law club/part time job (I think her lack of more ec’s hurt her, she just wasn’t a very involved high school student
SAT superscored 1290 - also low but she is not s great test taker, took it 3 times
Great essay!
So there ya go, hope this helps. I think the holistic decision system is interesting, because according to what I’m reading online FSU was almost as hard to get into this year, had more applications and let in less kids, and yet she didn’t get a full entry into UF.
Accepted!
