My writing score was updated today! Last time, it took about two weeks for it to update! I got a 10 on my essay and here's my comment:

General statements in your essay were well supported with specific reasons, examples, and details.

I'm really curious to see what others get. How do they make these comments anyway? I'm assuming there's a list of generic comments the essay readers choose from.

September essay score: 11

June essay score: 12

Yuck, 8 essay. Now I’m definitely retaking. Your essay adequately supported general statements with specific reasons, examples, and details. Your essay maintained focus on the specific issue in the prompt. Using more sentence variety and precise word choice would make your essay clearer and more engaging.

It seems there are a limited number of comments for each score (2-12). But, how reliably is an essay evaluated? Will the same reader give different scores at different time of the day, week, or month? Will different readers give different scores on the same essay? How about gender effect, i.e., male/female readers on female/male writers?

The “a 36 English but only an 8 for the essay” is interesting. Does anyone get a 36 English but 7, 6, 5, or 4 on the essay?
