Postgraduate in the US

Hey guys,

I am an international student and I am thinking of doing my undergraduate in Physics from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland (physics world ranking around 12 so it is very prestigious).

But the medium of instruction is French. I wanted to know that after finishing my undergrad in Switzerland, will it be possible for me to attend a top institution in the US for postgraduate education?

In short, will the fact that I studied in French hold back my applications to top universities in the US?

Btw, I have studied in English for more than 12 years and I am completely fluent.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

No it will not hold you back. Doing well at Lausanne will be the bigger challenge.

Some US schools may require the TOEFL or IELTS.

It’s absolutely not a problem. Depending on the school you might need to take the TOEFL and sit through an in -person English speaking evaluation. Some schools would exempt you from providing test scores for showing English fluency if you can prove you had a certain amount of schooling in an English speaking school, but just check the requirements at each place. Plenty of people go to grad school in the US from non-English speaking universities.

Thanks a lot for your feedback everyone!

@PurpleTitan Yeah I heard that the first year is extremely hard. I am going to try my best.
