why not, people explore and grow

and that is hat freshman year is for…

Not sure about this either. At the UCLA tour, the tourguide said it’s show depth and passion if you stick with one activity for 4 years. I know DD did not continue with her sports after the PE requirement is done. D still put this sport that she did in 9th and 10th grade as an EC because she spent a lot of time in that EC. However, D removed piano, an activity she did since kindergarten but has not continued as much in high school. She spent less than a year in this activity in HS. She does not have a passion for piano so it was ok not to list it.

I think it depends on what else you have for ECs… For exampler, there’s room for 7 on the common app, and they should be the seven you are most proud of, only listing further if you have more intense/amazing activities than that… So if you don’t have much for ECs, I doubt it will hurt, but if you already have plenty, focus the spotlight on what has mattered most to you.

It’s fine. CGM is right: People are expected to explore and grow. It’s fine to try a variety of activities to see which ones you like, and it’s OK to keep doing that for the rest of your life, not just freshmen year
