After having completed my first semester at Brandeis, I know I am not yet a fountain of wisdom, per se, but I can offer you a few interesting insights about Brandeis.

1) Everyone calls Brandeis the “Jewish School”. If you’re not Jewish, don’t let that turn you off. I’m not Jewish, I go to Brandeis, and I do not feel like a black sheep, at all. I personally have a lot of Jewish friends, as well as a lot of non-jewish friends. I think people assume that Brandeis is a strict religious school, but it is non-secular, so don’t be discouraged if you’re not.

2) Social Scene-- a lot of people think that Brandeis lacks a social scene. Being a party guy myself, I really have not been disappointed. It’s easy to find a party during the weekends, they’re usually pretty fun, and its nice to take a break after a long week of school work. Brandeis really is full of activists-- one of the parties I went to had posters everywhere saying “Beer for Books” and charged $5 at the door, all funds going to Darfur. Yes, people will complain that there is nothing to do. And it is those same people that even back in their hometown complained that there was nothing to do. If you want to go to a party, you’ll find one. If you want to be lazy and sit around waiting for the party to come to you, you might not be so lucky.

3) Food-- this may be one of the only complaints I have about Brandeis. The food gets repetitive and dull after a while. Aramark-- our schools dining company is terrible. But, you don’t go to college for fine dining. Deal with it. I do. Go out on the weekends and eat in Waltham or Boston, spoil yourself a little.
