So I'm kind of fearing that I got deferred. 2 national merits at my school were deferred.
Here are my stats:
[ *] College (LSA, engineering, etc.): Engineering
[ *] SAT: N/A
[ *] SAT IIs (if sent): N/A
[ *] ACT: 33
[ *] GPA: 3.7 UW, 3.9 W
[ *] Rank: 52/258
[ *] Other stats: AP Comp Sci AB: 4, AP Physics B: 4, AP Microecon: 4, Taking AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Phys C and AP Gov this year
[ *] Subjective (ECs, special circumstances, etc): 4 yrs Football, 2 yrs Wrestling, Robotics Club, Student Council, "School Spirit" Club.
[ *] Essays: Pretty good, mentioned camps I went to on campus, talked about what I could bring to the school.
[ *] Teacher Recs: I didn't see it but I think it's pretty generic
[ *] Counselor Rec: Very Good
[ *] Hook (legacy, recruited athlete, etc.): My Dad got his MBA from umich
[ *) Location/Person:
[ *] State or Country: Michigan
[ *] School Type: Highly Competitive Private Catholic High School
[ *] Ethnicity: White
[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] major strength/weakness: my gpa/class rank (frosh year I had a 3.6 W)
[ *] Other Factors/questions: Applied 10/28

If I have a 3.7 W GPA This semester (4 B+s, 1 A, 2 Bs, but AP Stats, Gov, and BIO) would my grades be ok and still give me a chance to get in?

You’re in play unless or until you receive a deferral letter. And then you’re still in play throughout the regular decision pool. I don’t know the strength of your school or the stats of the national merit students who were deferred, but on the surface I think you look pretty admissible. Not in the top 10% of your class but in top 20 and right in mid range of stats for gpa (don’t worry about frosh; they won’t) and upper range for ACT.

– But where’s your Calc? Take any? COE will be looking for that, I suspect. I also wonder about grade inflation at your school, b/c your weighted GPA is 3.9 and yet there’s almost 20% with higher GPAs. That sounds a little statistically suspect, but I could be all wet. Short story is think positively until someone official gives you any reason not to : )

kmccrindle, I didn’t end up taking calc because I wasn’t in the honors math track freshman year. I did however get an a+ in geometry, algebra 2, and an a in precalc if that is at all relevant. and the reason I’m only top 20% is because I didn’t take honors english or honors math all 4 years, other students did and thus they have 4.2-4.3s

TheyCallMeCC, I was just wondering if i did get deferred, what my chances would be of getting in with a GPA like that
