(Potential) ED Applicant Chances!

Hi guys!

I am thinking of applying ED. Do you think this would be a big boost? Not sure if I am 100% yet...

I am pretty involved in the community and school so that is definitely something I am confident I have been highlighting well in my applications in a unique way. I also just retook the ACT today, and I'm not sure how I did, but I also signed up for October just in case. I hope to improve my score, but do give me thoughts even with my current score as well.

Stats:
GPA: ~3.8 (top 4% ranking at a very large public school, extremely rigorous course load)
ACT: 28 (hope to improve, just retook today and did sign up in October as well)

Goals: I want to get into the business field/finance/entrepreneurship space

Extracurriculars:

Published a book available at local bookstores and pretty big online platforms (think Amazon, Barnes/Nobles).

Founded the first ever entrepreneurs organization for students in our community which has been pretty successful. I organized some cool speakers and we have been featured in some pretty big media publications.

Interned for a summer at a congressional office

Interned for a summer in social media at pretty cool start-up (this inspired a lot of my interest in entrepreneurship)

Ranked among the top five young women in the state through a national organization

Represented as a delegate at Girls State

President of Student Council (this is a huge time commitment as our school, and I have definitely been moving up the ladder quite a bit here. Fortunately, our school principal will be writing one of my recommendations so I am confident she can highlight my contributions pretty well).

Served on council for Principle's advisory committee, launched/led a few unique student committees for our school programs, recreated our website.

Graduating from an internationally recognized dance program

NHS, MHS, DECA.

My major concern really is my ACT score...standardized tests have always been pretty hard for me and I am doing my best to hopefully improve this.

Do you recommend I just apply ASAP with my current score or wait it out until October? Any feedback is really valuable and I appreciate it! Thanks so much guys!

Hey dream big. Current student at NU so I hope I can help. I believe you can always send in any future test scores like an October test later and they will still consider it with your application even if you submit your application now. Honestly, ED does help your chances but it’s hard to get in to NU with an ACT below 32. It’s hard to get in regardless of your scores really. If you are set on NU then I say it’s worth a shot but consider getting tutoring for your standardized testing. Your Extracurriculars sound very interesting and could possibly make up for your ACT being on the low side. Hope that helps!

Yes, I sure hope so! I did retake my ACT this month, but I’m not sure how I did yet. I will also be taking it in October most likely…

Also, would not having subject tests be a disadvantage if I took the ACT? I’ve heard that with the ACT, subjects are generally not required at most schools.

Thanks!

You should definitely take the subjects tests because I think they do help especially if you score well on them(obviously), but it also might make up for a lower ACT score. But I will say that if you’re not dead set on applying ED, then you shouldn’t. I think your ec’s are cool, and could make up for a lot.
