I currently attend Barnard and would like to consider transferring. The only problem is that my college GPA will not be so good--probably around a 3.0 or 3.2. My high school transcript was good, 3.8/2300. I had published research and a congressional internship. I'm very involved in college currently--on two executive boards of prominent groups and one university committee.

My list:
Cornell (top choice)
Dartmouth
Tufts
Colgate

Would I have a chance to get into any of these, or really, any comprable schools to Barnard, with my mediocre college GPA?

Cornell (top choice) - reach
Dartmouth - reach
Tufts - low reach
Colgate - probably

Bates/Colby/Oberlin?
a place like GW would take you and is solid academically and in a nice city

Why do you want to leave Barnard?

Your chances will probably depend a lot on if you’re a sophomore or if you’re a freshman. If you’re a freshman, those high school grades will carry a lot of weight, but if you’re a sophomore, they will not carry as much weight.

Also, what are you looking to go into? Because that’ll help narrow down potential schools.

I am a freshman, so just started school, and academic adjustment was rough, because Barnard/Columbia are very rigorous schools. I’m looking to go into law.

I only want to transfer if its to a school with equal prestige. Is that possible with my GPA? Its really just mostly B’s.

I know Brown is good for pre-law, maybe there. Any Ivy would be good, and then Amherst is also good.

You can apply to Dartmouth, but I can also bet you $100 dollars you will be rejected. The reason I make [such discouraging threads](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1417791-do-not-apply-these-top-10-universities.html"]such”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1417791-do-not-apply-these-top-10-universities.html) is because many prospective transfers like yourself have mismatched goals. A 3.3 is too low for any academic applicant to any Ivy League university. Even Cornell, the easiest out of the Ivies, rejects transfer hopefuls with a 4.0 college GPA on a regular basis.

So what are schools I should be aiming for? I would like small liberal arts colleges. Does it help that I’m coming from a rigorous college, taking hard classes?
