Potential transfer student, in school forever!

So here's my situation, cliff notes version. Its kind of embarassing I've been n school so long, but oh well.

Went to a CSU for 3 yrs, took some GE classes, but was unsure of a major. Got on probation due to various issues. Not going through Withdrawal process of several classes due to a family issue and was instead given F's which couldnt be taken off my record. The only way to stay there was classes through extended learning, so i just ended up in a CCC.

Off and on for the past 6 yrs or so I ended up changing majors and was undecided taking GE classes. Finally a couple yrs ago I settled on Business Admin. Couldve transferred last fall or this spring back to CSU's. Some issue w/ admissions not getting my transcripts on time (so they cancelled my enrollment for fall 2009), then with the CA budget cuts CSU's werent accepting spring 2010 transfers. Now for fall 2010 most local CSU's (about 3 or 4) all have my business major impacted. So now after applying I have to be hopeful and lucky I get in, unlike before it was pretty much automatic acceptance. Not sure what alternatives I will have if I dont.

I probably spent almost $500 on applications/transcripts for schools the last 3 yrs, but still didnt transfer. Issues with finishing up classes, unsure which schools, and just anxiety going back to a bigger and more crowded campus as an older student. i still have anxiety issues so I mostly take night and online classes at CC.
On the good side, I got my grades in check and have an overall 3.3-3.4 GPA in CC classes but is lowered by my 1.85 CSU GPA yrs ago. I have over 90+ units of coursework overall. Taking only 2-3 classes per semester + missing a couple unproductive semesters also has delayed things previously.

Right now, I couldve transferred in fall 2009 as I explained the issues which prevented that. Now I have to wait till 2010. I'm pretty much done with junior status classes, but need to fill time till then. Didnt have much intention of getting a Business Admin AA, but at least I'll have accomplished something in 9 yrs off and on of college. The CC requires 2 additional courses (at least 6 units) but these will have no impact on my current transfer status (since I fulfilled all requirements already). So a spring/summer 2010 semesters till I can transfer (if i get accepted w/ an impacted major) +2 or more yrs at whatever CSU...which will be 10-12 yrs in college if I'm lucky. I'm glad I got back on track, but this process will take forever it seems. Likely an untypical and extreme college situation.

I didn’t see a question in the middle of all of that!

A few thoughts.

You have finished your Business Admin AA. Period. Congrats. Enjoy your accomplishment!

Also, it seems that you have figured out what is most comfortable for you in terms of a learning style. Night classes, online classes, smaller classes. There is nothing wrong about that, congrats on figuring out YOUR learning style. Not every student thrives in 100+ student lecture halls overflowing with 19 year old kids. It is perfectly legit to realize you thrive in more intimate learning settings. Your 3.3 for your recent coursework confirms this for you. Don’t fight it, embrace it.

As for transfering, use this information and pick a SMALL intimate CSU or private college. You may be eligible for a lot of aid, so don’t dismiss some of the smaller privates.

I don’t think your situation is extreme. Many students never graduate at all. You are still working on your goal.

I think your best bet is to stop hashing over “woulda-coulda-shoulda”, such as fretting over the amount of money spent on apps and transcripts. That is the past. What is your plan now? Today is a new day and you get to plan your future.

Granted, transfer situations are tough this year in CA, but you plan with what options you have, live with the delays, save up money, move, whathaveyou.

Good luck.
