potential transfer wants to know how you like Emory, pros & cons

My D is at an upper tier public University, a national merit scholar and is considering transferring to Emory next year. What do you like about Emory (besides status items), is it heavily greek, do you find smart students in your class with intellectual discussions, are the students welcoming to different types of people (racially, geographically, physically) or do they just stay with their own types of people, and do all the girls look alike and dress alike?

Yes, we are from Atlanta!!!

Another question, what is dorm life like....do they party all night like at some schools or is it civilized college life?

Hello Atlmom, am only a sophomore but will do my best to answer your questions (and its my very first post, hahahah how come i did not know about this site when i was a senior in hs) anyways..

to be honest, emory wasn't my first choice and a lot of people here are ivy rejectees, not even kidding hahah i know lame, beside early applicants, lots 'were' ivy wishers. anyways, i am actually happy that am here. people at emory are really down to earth, they are generally very open minded and i had no problem with finding friends to chill with or even to live with. there are a lot of different types of people from everywhere. i'd say majorities are from NJ/NY, GA of course, and korea but everyone's welcomed. some group of people are kinda cliquey like koreans but thats about it. students tend to hang out with peeps from same dorm from freshman year becasue thats where people have the most fun. but students can also make friends from work, class, clubs, or even very randomly in the library. unless your daughter is highly anti-social, she won't have troubles finding mates.

greek scene is not as huge, 30% of students are in greeks including myself but thats not a big issue at emory. greek and non-greek dudes all chill, study and party together. speaking of girls, they don't look alike at all hahaah. some sorority girls sometimes look all same becasue they are all blond!!!!!! (some are not hahahah no worries there).

and yes there are lots of smart people even though they don't look like :P. emory is study hard - party hard type school. we party a lot but we don't untill we get works done. class discussion is very active and some classes actually require class participations (like 25% of grades). professors really care about their students and they are like our frineds. they know their stuff, they are smart, and they know what they are teahing meanwhile they are also very friendly, funny, and willing to help. i learned a lot form each class (but warning you, some classes are TERRIBLE!!!!)

dorm life.. hmmm i partied the most when i was a freshman. thursday night is a party night, people go to clubs or just party in their rooms. there is an organization which actually promotes club parties. frat row is also where students can have fun and party. students also go to buckhead, virginia highland, five points, and downtown during the weekends. a lot of things are going on every weekends starting thursday so it is hard to get bored.

hope this helped and feel free to ask any more questions.

forgot to take care of cons.. i'd say lack of school spirit, no college sports especially football!!! people are not like i can die for school or such, people don't go to sports events. it gets harder to make new friends as people become juniors and seniors in residence (clairmont campus, since they are already living with their friends, no point of going out to the hall and knock on every door to meet people) and.. i can't think of any
