Potentially bad AP Calc BC teacher

My precalc teacher from junior year was not very good tbh. I had to teach myself a lot from the textbook. I have Calc BC this year and I have him for it (first year teaching it). The other teacher is supposedly some amazing teacher (got teacher of the year award from the graduating seniors). his class is full tho and I would have to plead to him to let me into his full class. do you think I should? i don't want to come off as picky or a suckup or someone who criticizes teachers.

So what do you think? Trying to get some opinions here.

You should try to switch. Good luck!

Try to switch. If you can’t, try to be glad that you have mastered the skill of teaching yourself something from a book. It will stand you in good stead.

thanks everyone! anyone else? please

I would try to switch, but don’t criticize the other teacher. Just tell him something along the lines that you think his teaching style fits the way you learn and it would help you be better prepared for college.

Another vote for asking to switch. You have nothing to lose and if you are constructive and diplomatic with your request (ThatMom has a good suggestion), nothing to lose. And Consolation said what I was going to say too: if you can’t switch, learning to teach yourself from a textbook is a valuable skill (and you will probably need it at some point when you are in university). Don’t forget Khan Academy will be your friend if you have to go it alone :)

thanks everyone!

Is what way(s) was the pre-calc teacher “not very good”? Examples?
