I would like to write my college essay on a political campaign I worked for, to show an instance where hard work and passion paid off and made a difference, etc. I don't want to be vague, and would like to include the name of the candidate, a high profile politician. Is this a bad idea? Would it affect my chances of getting into schools? I would not focus on the politics so much as the effect the experience had on me.

Frankly why would they? In my opinion it seems similar to saying that you are in Young Dems or Young Republicans. They just want a well rounded class so don’t worry.

i don’t think this has any latent controversy; just do it.

On the contrary, schools like to know that you have opinions and are not afraid to express them. Including the name of the candidate would be good - so long as you didn’t go overboard. Good luck!

I don’t see the controversy; you’re speaking about one of your experiences. Good luck on your essay.
