Pounded with stuff from WashU!

It takes less time than posting here to call WashU telling them to take you out of the mailing list, I did it and it works.

hmmm... we told WUSTL D2 was going elsewhere and she is still getting tons of recruitment materials.

In my opinion, Wash U is one of several that wants to lower their acceptance rate by beating the bushes for students who might marginally meet their criteria but that they can then reject.
One of the snob factor criteria for ranking colleges is their low acceptance rate. If you encourage students to apply then only accept 15% of them that makes you as a college very special indeed.

I am getting tons of mail from WashU on an almost daily basis. My ACTs are pretty good but not great (30).
My older bro looked there (he had more impressive scores than I do) but wasn't as impressed with them as they seem to be with themselves.

No Thanks!

I received brochures picturing great luxury cruises but I have my feet where they have to be, I know they are not for me, why you guys always complain about Wash u mailings just because you don't qualify? Be sincere with yourselves, any school wants to attract the most brilliant students but if you are not one of them, let it go and forget about the mail.

No i guess it's not really them particularly but everyone who buys into the old idea of not wanting to be part of a club that readily accepts them striving instead for the most elusive and exclusive admission.
The best college isn't always the one that has the highest rejection rate. It's not sour grapes. I'll go where they have programs I want and an atmosphere where people are challenged but don't have to be pretentious about it.

Wash U is also sending out admissions reps for informational sessions. There's one in our area in October - we'll probably go even though it's not currently on the list of schools D will be applying to.

We've received mail from schools including NYU, Barnard, and Johns Hopkins that would be reaches for D given her good but not great soph PSAT (185) and ACT (29 composite).

Around our house, we say that WUSL stands for "We Send U LOTS of mail!"

What is even funnier, is that like many teenaged boys, our son has pseudonyms receiving just as much mail. We joke that "Fritz" is going to get accepted at many colleges that S does not!

Not on the topic of WashU, but I was expecting to see tons of college mail after the AP scores came out, but S didn't get a single thing! We're feeling unloved....

^did he not check the box telling CB that he wants mail from colleges?

mommusic, college mail comes from checking the "Student Service" on the PSAT or PLAN test...NOT from ACT scores.
