Anyone doing the Power up program or have you taken it previously?

S is signed up, moving in on the 2nd. It seemed a bit $$, but it seems like it would be a good way to get him acclimated without 15 billion people showing up at the same time.

My S is in ComCol, which has their own orientation and has you move in early, and would have conflicted with this, so we never considered it. I’m curious about how many kids will take this. It does seem a bit pricey, hopefully your S will get a lot out of it.

Moving in early was definitely a pleasant experience for the parents- no crowd at all (S was in NorthEast though, which is probably a lot calmer on move-in day than some other areas like SW). There were very few people in his dorm for the first couple of days though (his roommate didn’t show up until Monday) - fortunately the ComCol stuff kept him busy at night with activities so he wasn’t sitting around in an empty dorm. Hopefully your S will be able to connect with a group and have a good time until the rest of his dorm shows up.

My S decided to move in early (paying for it himself) again this year, too. I think he liked having a few relatively quiet days to get his head in the right place.

There are activites associated with the Power Up program, so he won’t be sitting around; I think part of the point of the program is to start making connections and learn how to navigate the system. They claim the program was filled last year.

S will be in Northeast, and his roomate is showing up on the 3rd, so he’ll just be alone in the room one night.

My S was in Mary Lyon. We were able to drive up one of the access roads (off of Eastman Lane) and park on the grass right next to the dorm. I don’t think we were more than 30 feet from the front door.

They seem to be pretty relaxed about parking for move-in, too, which is nice. No tickets or anything, even for parking on the grass for an hour.
