Do people who play multiple varsity sports have an edge? (Im not talking about recruited athletes.) It seems like Ivies really like applicants who play multiple varsity sports and have a volunteering club (like Key Club).

you'd think that but from what it seems like on these boards they like the Asians and Indians with the 1500's

But seriuosly, I hope some admissions officers see how much time and devotion are put into some sports, football takes up 9 months out of my year!!!

I do karate, cross country, wrestling, and track. Those were my main activities on my app and I got into Yale.

im sure u had high # stats, too>?

no i was pretty below average. I'm a urm but i know other minorities with higher numbers than me who got rejected so i think sports really set me apart.

Crew is 4-5 hours a day, but i will prob. get recruited by an Ivy league school.

Are JV sports worth putting on apps?

yes definitely put it on the app. if there's any way you can show you were doing it out of devotion to the sprot & not just to put it on your app then i think it can serve a plus.

but eitherr way, colleges know a sport takes up time. it just won't be a dealbreaker for you (this is referring to JV sports...i've heard a couple varsity sports is recognized as a substantial EC, esp. if you're captain, etc)

Sports are a nice EC which shows team work ability, etc., but they really don't help more than the average EC unless you're recruited. Think about it, at many schools almost anyone can get on a varsity team.

unfortunately, not mine

i run varsity and jv track...varsity when im lucky

Crew, lacrosse, and field hockey are helpful at Ivies, Patriot League(Holy Cross and Colgate),and New England Small Colleges(Amherst,Williams etc.)

i do cross country, indoor and outdoor track, but i'm horrible

should i still include them on my apps, and how much will they help me?

how about being captain of a city champ sport team but not going for recuit athlete? (also with multiple sports)
