PPW for Class of 2012

Upon reading the rumors regarding PPW, I decided to go to the source. I wrote to Admissions and this was my reply:

"We will definitely have a PPW. I am not certain that the dates have been finalized."

Wonder when they will know.

Lets wait until the "official" word from either the Academy or the Alumni/Foundation Parents Coordinator is posted on either the POA page of the USNA Web site or on the Alumni/Foundation before continuing this thread.

The Parent Coordinator has asked all of the parents clubs to not post anything about rumored changes on their web pages - we should probably follow suit.

Im sorry, but what is a PPW.

PPW is Plebe Parents Weekend.

Profmom2 - If an officer from the Admissions office at USNA says we will have PPW, I am not to think that is "official"? I don't care when it happens as long as it does happen.

I told my mom that their might not be a PPW and she literally almost broke down. I am sure she will be ecstatic now!

Personally, unless I heard something directly from the Commandant and/or Superintendent, I would not say it is "official." That doesn't mean to say that there is or isn't going to be a PPW.

I think ProfMom2 had the best advice....wait and see. It is only January and there is plenty of time for things to change (for the good or worse).

That is essentially what has been asked of the Parents Clubs - until it comes out of the Commandant's of Superintendent's office it is not official.

One thing all of the Plebe to Be Parents need to recognize - things change at a drop of a hat. Many times those changes are after plans have been made. Summer Cruises get cut short and you have 1 day to get your Mid back home. Report time at Thanksgiving being changed to an earlier time after airline reservations had been made. Plans to visit and being told within the week of the visit that no liberty on Sunday as there will be mandatory sporting event attendance, or as a Plebe postponed until late in the day on Saturday because they have boards to do... the list can go on. Even for the Class of 2012 you have had the first big change with I Day being moved. There are some Parents whose kids got LOA's that now have to change reservations at a hotel and even possibly Airline Tickets. (We would have had to as son received Appointment in November his year and this change would have occurred after that)

We have learned over the past two years that you have to go with the flow, be flexible and because you heard it from your BGO or even admissions it may not be what actually happens.

As you will hear often Semper gumpy!

I am going to wade in with Jadler and Profmom on this one....
just too many things changing at the eleventh hour!

To those of you just climbing aboard this roller coaster, just keep in mind that just because you have seen it on an email, heard it from someone that appears to be in authority (ie: admissions), got a letter on it, see it posted on the USNA calendar, etc, etc, etc.....

even all of that is subject to change.
There is a reason so many of us who have BTDT waive a yellow flag of caution....there is truth in "semper gumby."

Class of 2010... listed all over the place that I-Day would be July 1. We had it on the official calendar, in the paperwork sent home, from the admissions folks, etc, etc, etc. Guess what- it was June 28th.

Halloween concert this year... first it's on, then it's off, then it's on again, only to have "someone in the know" tell us it's "definately off." It was a wonderful concert. Listen to the well-meaning rumor mills and we would now be calling the "Brigade" the "Fleet"..... (as if that ever made any sense at all in the first place).

Oh.. and my favorite... that the food issue was "for one meal only." (seems like info from the dant is questionable as well!)

Profmom is right on target with her advice to "Go with the flow, be flexible".... because truth be told, you just never know. Just like a ship on the sea, you will be affected by time, tide and wind.... and they can all be heading in opposite directions.

PPW: hmmmm.
good question.
Hopefully, yes.
But parents are certainly on the "secondary, optional and conditional" list these days....having said that, not so sure we even rate that! (is there something that describes an entity less significant than a plebe??? )

Might I suggest Krill.

^^^^rotflmao!!!!!!!!!!

(does krill rate over bacteria??? wait... maybe the "rents" are even lower than that... do u think we are just "virus" )

Going with the "semper gumby" principle I didn't end up getting hotel rooms until very close to the days for PPW. Did it a little more ahead for drop off on I-day, maybe a week earlier than PPW but not much.

Thinking back last year it was maybe 2 weeks ahead? I ended up using Hotwire for the rooms in Annapolis for PPW (we stayed at the Sheraton for under $50 a night) and for I-day at the Historic Inns of Annapolis for about $65 a night also purchased from Hotwire.

I did however have back-up reservations (not paid for just reserved) at other Annapolis' hotels for the same dates for substantially more money. Since we have/had 5 kiddos in college ALL AT THE SAME TIME Hotwire and Priceline has been our lodging salvation, especially with the kiddos scattered all over the country.

Availability of rooms changes HOURLY at both sites so perserverance, flexibility and luck is key. But after 5 years we have been fortunate. Another son attends school in NJ so it has come in useful numerous times for drop-offs, move-in/out and football games.

Hope this helps.
