PPW question...

Who is allowed to come to PPW? Just mid parents and siblings? How about grandparents, aunts, uncles, close friends, girlfriends/boyfriends, etc.

Thanks

Anyone can come. :)

Thanks JT. That's good news for my extended family. =)

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I have a HUGE family so I was wondering if we are allowed to bring grandparents/siblings, etc. Sounds good though. Is it a good experience for grandparents to come to? mine have never been to the academy and were looking for a good time to come. is this a good weekend?

last summer we had the whole family come for I-Day (parents, grandparents, siblings, and one uncle) but we saved PPW for the parents. plebes are usually very tired by then and may not be up for a big party.

I agree that on PPW the last thing the Plebe probably wants to do is entertain everyone. The real thing on their mind is a meal at a great restaurant (or Five Guys) and a comfortable bed to lie down on, even if just for a couple of hours. If friends and relatives want to see and feel the Academy experience, I recommend coming for a football weekend. If you do the correct weekend you can catch a P-rade, noon meal formation and the march-on at the football game by the entire Brigade.

Does anyone know if there are firm dates posted yet for PPW?

grad/dad is correct. PPW is probably not the weekend to have your mid entertain you. They want off the yard for as much time as possible, a hotel room to sleep much of the day and a good meal. If they offer eating with the Mids in King hall - skip it - your mid will not want to do it.

There is a lot of walking and lots of people, not a very good time for anyone elderly to be visiting. We found a non football weekend in the fall and took the Grandparents up at that time. Much more relaxing and could drive onto the yard. Parents of Midshipmen can dine at the O Club - we took the GP to Sunday morning Chapel and then brunch at the O club. Made for a very nice Sunday since Plebes can not leave the yard on Sunday's. PPW weekend would have been way to much for the GP's.

What are the exact dates for this years PPW? thanks in advance...

That is something good to keep in mind -- I did not think of that. I had a few friends that were thinking of coming to see me; besides that it was just my family, which might actually be really nice. =)

And dates would be helpful to get reservations.... =)

This should help:
Plebe Summer Information Page

I will second Profmom on this one for PPw-
keep it simple.
sleeping, eating and just getting off the yard are about all your plebe will want to do....
in contrast, visitors, especially those seeing the yard for the first time, will want to tour annapolis and perhaps the academy itself---- exactly where your plebe will not want to be!!! (no doubt there are some exceptions to this!)
and brunch at the O-club is perfect for sunday!!!

Caution to the wind at the O-club dress with proper attire. No jeans shorts or flip flops etc. Men should have jacket and possible tie.

PPW is August 8-10. There is another thread on this website that has stated the same. People have called admissions and that is what they have confirmed.

it is posted there. someone else already provided this link

A couple questions on PPW.

It doesn't appear there is a schedule of events for this year yet. Does anyone have a schedule from a previous year?

What time is it usually over on Sunday?

This might help. It was class of 2011 schedule. Don't count on it being the same but it should be close.

Thanks that kind of gives my parents an Idea of what to expect.

My son got his appontment letter Friday - yahoo! - and my wife and I made our plans for PPW yesterday. I checked flights on Friday and when I went to book them Sunday they had gone up $15!
