Beginning to think about making hotel reservations for PPW.

Is it wise to be near the Yard for various onboard activities, or do parents get to whisk their Plebe away for an overnight, thereby trying to get the plebe as far away as possible?

With the new administration there have been some changes that impacted PPW and will likely be more coming, so stay flexible. No overnight for one.

Activities may change as well but they had tours etc, hopefully you will still get to visit their rooms in Bancroft

Staying near the Yard (which is what we did staying at Lowes) has one great advantage in terms of the ability to walk on and off without trying to find parking spaces, the hotels tend to cost more so it comes down to what you value most and who will be attending; will you have grandparents with you that may have mobility issues and will need to be driven regardless of where you stay. If that is the case there are a number of hotels out around the Mall that may suit you.

I would make reservations asap, we made ours for I-day and PPW back in Feb when our son first heard he was appointed, you can always cancel them if you change you mind or find a better deal, but when the local hotels are full you are out of luck...

So it appears that Plebe Summer has been shortened to 5 weeks. Is there any place on the Navy site where they have published this information. Not disbelieving you at all, but when my parents go to book non-refundable airfare, I better be giving them something to back up the dates.

I'd not be quick to assume that it's only 5 weeks. None go home with parents. Just means PPW comes after 5 wks vs. 6. No doubt, plebes will continue to know they are that.

Last year PPW had no overnight. We rented a house nearby within walking distance of gate one. It was the best thing we ever did. Plebe and her high school friends cruised downtown and had a great time. I would reccomend renting something near the Accademy for that weekend. They had a chance to take Loooong showers and decompress for at least a couple of days. Plebes are still Plebes before and after PPW.

We worked with leisure management. They have two houses in Eastport within walking distance of Gate One. The houses were clean and had lots of bedrooms and great location. A little expensive but worth the price for the convenience. I think the site is index.html. You can Google leisure management and find it. Anything near the YARD for ppw is great. All they want is a shower and a place to sleep.
