Hi, my name is Samantha, junior, and I am new here. : )

I have a new SAT question:

Last week was my first week of class at a Princeton Review Prep Center (I took this class mainly because I was not satisfied with my math score on my psat). So, we took a practice new SAT on Sunday and I survived the long test : )

The aftermath:

This was my first time taking the SAT, I never took the old. Now, I got 70 points higher on this new math sat than I did on the psat I took in October. Is that seem right? I mean, the place guarantees you 200 points improvement, so I assumed my score might be tweaked lower, not higher.

I got the same verbal score as my psat, 670. Now, is it reasonable to shoot for a 700?
What would you do to improve this?

I am taking the first new SAT in March.

I do not have class until next week, so I will get to see my answer sheet and mistakes.

Also, I was wondering for anyone who took a Princeton Review Course, did your score really improve 200 points and if so, in math or verbal.

Thank you so much,

Samantha

Kids I know who took the PR class last summer, had math (and verbal) scores that went up and down throughout the testing cycle, so don't assume that all of a sudden you will score 750 on the math portion in March. Also, The PSAT is a much shorter test, and has a brutal curve, so each problem is worth relatively more points, i.e., each psat math problem is worth ~35 pts -- miss four, and you have a 660; miss one, and you have a 770. On the other hand, you could miss several on the real math test and still score an 800.

For extra practice, pickup a copy of CB's Guide to the New SAT, which has three full-length practice tests. Good luck,

nah, PR is not worth it, my instructor didn't know much, i was practically telling her her errors and shoing her more efficient ways of approaching a Math Problem. and it didn't help me much, and they go by the book, so just get a book and learn from it. it was a waste of my time and money, i now prefer self-study rather than those courses, gl with your SATs

They have 8 practice tests, not 3. :) --- Kaplan has 3.

What does cb stand for?

And, thank you so much for your advice.

Well, I am already enrolled and my mom paid (which was difficult for our family) so, I will try to get the best out of it.

thank you
