PR vs. Barrons for best PSAT prep book that has explanations to answers?

Hi,

I am an incoming sophomore and I was wondering which PSAT prep book is the best to use to study for the PSAT. Before you mention it, I am going to buy the Blue Book, because everyone reccomends it. But I need an another psat prep book because the blue book doesn't have tips and explanations, so i heard that geting another PSAT book on top of that would be ideal. I heard great things about PR! But I also great things about Barrons, but a lot of people said it was really hard to understand. I don't know which to get? Which would you buy?

Thank you soo much!

I have Barrons PSAT book and I think it’s really good. I find all parts to be pretty helpful, but the math was what I got better on the most. Sure, a lot of the questions are kinda hard and the explanations might be vague, but the practice is useful regardless. I don’t have PR psat, but i do have PP regular sat, which i also like. And barrons psat is difficult enough to prep you for the regular SAT, too. Barrons is your best bet for psat. Good luck!

I’ve been using the McGraw Hill’s PSAT and had done most of the practice test.

Do you guys think the book is effective?

Is the actual test harder than the McGraw Hill’s PSAT or similar to the McGraw Hill’s PSAT?

I tried McGraw Hill and my score went down 100 points after 3 tests, so I’m sticking to the BB from now on. I’ve heard that the writing score is curved higher than I’d should be and I think the reading score is lower.

also, to answer OP’s question, I’m under the impression that Barron’s is better if you already have a high score and PR is better if your score is so so at the moment.

Did your score drop 100 points on the actual test or just the practice tests in the book?

The practice tests in the book.
