Practically, can we audit class at UCs without permission?

let say if i want to sit in some math classes but i dont want to take it for grades even though i can take them as pass / no pass. is it possible to just simply go to class and take lecture without getting a formal permission?

actually i dont mind to pay additional fees but i'm just not sure whether UCs do allow undergrad students register for auditing.

any of you guys have experiences to share; i'll be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure how legal it was… but i sat in on the first weak of 6 philosophy classes at UCSD. No one noticed even though they were small classes (about 50 students).

I’m sure if it was a bigger class it would be even easier.

im sure u can walk in and no one would even notice, just try to remain inconspicuous

lecture halls no problem people do it all the time (my experience at ucla). when there’s 300+ students no ones gonna notice. every now and then there’s a small course and those might be a little tougher if the prof. likes to engage the students and check the roster (they can have a picture of you and your name if he/she likes to call on people). 90% of courses though you would have no trouble just sitting in.
