Practice MCAT --> Real MCAT

I ran through a couple of practice problems from the free MCAT test on e-mcat.com, and I actually did fairly well on them (10 on Biological Sciences, 12 on Verbal). So my question is, how similar to the real MCAt are practice tests like these? If they are not too different from these ,it seems that if i did some cumulative practice over the next year (as well as taking physics and o-chem next year), I could take the test at the end of my sophomore year. What do you guys think?

You can very well take the MCAT at the end of your sophomore year. I did and many other students do.

However, I wouldn't base the decision on the free MCAT that's online. From what I've seen, people tend to do exceedingly well on it.

haha,
have fun with that, but seriously take your time. Practice tests aren't always great indicators. You only went through a sample anyways right?

actually, i dunno - my understanding that it was one of those real MCAts that they release publiicly.

The test gets progressively harder from year to hear. Old AAMC tests are not the most reliable indicators.

so (roughly , of course), what cna i expect my real score to be from my score on these practice tests? At least for biological sciences, it just seems you just need more common sense/reading comprehension than anything else. Am I just horribly wrong, or is that the case?

Over the last 5 months i've taken around 9 practice MCAT's and on April 7th took the real one. My actual mcat score was on the LOWER end of my practice tests and with a different distribution.

No matter what aptitude you have or lack all that matters is what answers you choose on test day which brings in luck and variation. prep prep prep, and hope things swing you're way. godspeed.

Even if you were taking a very recent, very accurate test, this would not be nearly enough to generate a reasonable estimate. You need a larger sample size.

I should have clarified: "couple of practice problems" = one whole verbal reasoning and biology section(s).

In that case, I withdraw my previous comment.

Obviously, an even larger sample size would still be helpful, but you are not courting absurdity if you've taken an entire section.

Depends which version it was, ive spent all my time since jan. studying for the mcat and as far as the aamc ones go, some are hard, some are easy. In general I've hit highs on some, and crazy lows on others, with the MCAT its the luck of the draw. If you take more practice ones for example AAMC 6 or 7 known for being harder and do that well your in really good shape.

I think the one they put online is AAMC 3R, generally regarded as one of the easier ones. 6, 7, and 8 are newer and more reflective of the actual test.
