Practice MCATs

Is it just me, or is the "real" practice MCAT (test 3R from AAMC) easier than the Kaplan and Princeton Review ones?

They are easier than the Kaplan and PR ones. Kaplan, however, compensates with ridiculous curves sometimes. I got a hold of one of my friend's Kaplan PT's. He missed 26 questions on the physics section and Kaplan still award him an 11 on the section. In real life, you can only miss roughly half that (around 13 questions) to get an 11.

Generally I found Kaplan tests to be harder than old AAMC tests - i.e. my scores were better. In recent times, however, Kaplan tests have been easier than the actual MCATs - i.e. scores are lower than Kaplan tests predict. This is different from mine, which was 4 points higher (!).

the AAMC tests they post online are pretty old I think, and itd make sense that the test gets harder every year

They say they're from the 90s, which is after the 1991 redesign. So why have they been getting harder?

I don't think they've gotten harder. I've taken every AAMC test available and have scored roughly the same. Around 34-35 on PT #3R, 4R, 5R (the "older" practice tests) and around 36-37 on 6R, 7, and 8, the slight difference in scores due to the fact that I told 6R, 7, and 8 after I was entirely finished with studying.

In my experience, kids who took the MCATs before August 2004 tended to see their scores go up relative to their most recent Kaplan test. Kids who took the MCATs after August 2004 - with August 2005 especially - tended to see their scores go down relative to their Kaplan tests. Now, in fairness, this is only a sample of three tests in the post-8/04 period, so who knows.

That must have cost a pretty penny. $40 each, right?

... well, I'm not talking about any one kid... and my friends generally don't charge me for the privilege of being their friend...

Hey...So how many practicet tests are actually available out there? (And I don't mean just those that STRICTLY copy the form/style of it)

Is all the material available exhaustive...? I would really appreciate if veterans could post a comprehensive list of practice tests/sources of MCAT 'like' or MCAT tests...

(I'll kinda start it...1) AAMC's.....3R... and....2) Kaplan course's.....3) K books.....)

Thanks!

(I was talking about norcal's AAMC tests.)

I was surprised there was no "real MCAT" book, like the 10 real SATs, but I think AAMC has something like 9 old MCATs available to buy.

Bump please....

You won't need many sources for MCAT tests because you won't be able to take many. Each one takes 8 hours to complete.

The AAMC ones are must takes. They are the most realistic (since they are revised versions of previously administered MCATs) and the best score predictors. I scored within a 3 pt range on all 6 practice tests and my actual score ended up within that range.

PR and Kaplan tests will be harder than the actual tests, especially the science sections. Kaplan uses more generous curves to compensate. PR doesn't really do that so your score ends up being a few points lower. I scored b/w 30-34 on the PR 49XX series tests.

Various other testing companies, examkrackers, berkeley review, peterson's also publish MCAT practice tests.

Sources for tests: AAMC, friends, bookstores, Kaplan/Princeton Review testing centers (they will provide AAMC tests for free if you are taking their MCAT course)
