Practice Practice Practice!

As a transfer who is out of the daily routine of 3 choirs 5 days a week, I was wondering how much I should practice in order to keep my voice functioning as consistently as it did then. I've noticed that some days my upper range will be painless, playful, but othertimes there seems to be a "good morning" raspyness to my upper range that just won't budge.

I'm worried, though, that I might also over sing. So can someone give me a guideline as to how much I should be practicing a day, workinging with my higher register, etc.?

Also, if I refrain from doing scales in my higher register daily, will it weaken, or at the very least become less consistent?

According to my S, he says one hour a day: warm up 20 min, vocalize for 20 min, ie exercizes out of a vocal Viccai, 15 to 20 min working on songs. And watch your breath support!

I have read on an opera forum that you should not spend too much time practicing in your upper register. I would never give any advice because I am not a voice teacher, but I suggest you talk to a voice teacher about so you don't strain your voice.
