I'm a senior, prepping for the Oct SAT I, and I'm aiming for a 2350 - 2400 this time around. [2nd time taking it]

I've been doing practice tests, mainly CB ones, though I'm going to run out soon. But anyway my point is, how many questions do you high scorers miss on your practice tests?

At the moment, I'm at 2 - 5 mistakes in CR, 2-5 mistakes in W, and 4 in M (I'm too lazy to double check, resulting in a LOT of stupid mistakes. In fact, almost all my mistakes in M are stupid ones). For my latest practice test that I took today, I got 2 wrong in CR, 2 wrong in W, and 4 wrong in M.

If I can consistently get those scores, and pull up the Math, do I have a legitimate chance for that 2350-2400 score range?

2 wrong in CR can still pull you an 800.
2 wrong in W can net you 770-800, plus factor in the essay.
4 wrong in M will get you a low-mid score...720-750.

Also from my experience, the CB practice tests are pretty close score wise to the real thing, as long as you took them as you would the real test.

For the record, I was getting around 2-4 wrong in total, always almost in CR. You must be very careful in the Math section, because even 1 wrong can put you down 30 points.

@ gutter - Ah, cool! That's somewhat comforting. I'll just have to hope the curve is nice to me in Oct.

@ hieronymus - That's good to hear, about the CR anyway. I'm not too worried about Math since I usually BS those sections in way below the 25 minutes. And don't double check. Hahahaha. Ahuhm.

I got two wrong in math and got a 740... One MC wrong and an 8 essay netted me a 760 in writing. I'd say 4-10 wrong is to many to have a good chance at a 2300.

Math seems to have the greatest disparity. My 750 estimate might have been a little on the high end, but I do know someone that got 4 wrong on Math and still got a 730. I personally got 4 wrong and left one blank and got a 720. Then again, two wrong can get you that score as well. It's all on the curve.

The writing is hard to base just off of the MC, since the essay factors in too.

Critical reading seems to be the most consistent.

Haha, oops. When I said "two can get you that score" I was thinking 740, which as one poster above me pointed out is possible. Apologies if I caused some controversy =P

I was at 2-4 mistakes on CR and Writing in my practice tests up to test day, but I missed fewer on the actual test. The key is not to focus on numbers but rather on developing your skills and increasing your level of proficiency at various portions of the SAT.
