Fun for parents too! Donated 400 grains (4 bowls) reaching level 43. Around 39 you start encountering a lot of technical words that will never be on the SAT, IMO.

One easy but tricky word I encountered at level 42= acetic with the trap being something like "monk" and the correct answer being "vinegar-like".

This is getting too addicting, I have to stop. You've gotta get your parents and teachers hooked on this. Also I take it back- there are SAT words in there, some pretty common, in the early 40's. I couldn't go past 45 nor did I stay there long, fell down to my level, around 41-42. Apparently the highest you can go is 50, but few get past 48!

Check out the FAQ- the amount donated has been growing almost exponentially; millions of grains have been donated and the site has been around only since Oct 7th.

Thanks to OP for posting this link. Except I am NOT going back there. I have work to do and I don't need to take the SAT :-).

I love how so many of the people on this thread are adults (me too: tutor). I hit level 50 last night but only for a few screens. :)

I agree that a lot of the words are not SAT vocab (usually technical words etc.), but some are! I saw "conflagration" at some level in the 40s; that's been on SATs. Also, it's a great chance to think about roots and prefixes and suffixes and how to figure out the meaning of words that you've never seen before.

I'm going to suggest that my students set www.freerice.com as their home page for a while so that they keep going back. (You can usually do this in the Preferences menu of your browser.)

OP, thanks again for this source; I'm hooked!

This is a great site. Some of the 45+ words are freakin hard though.. well, hard as in obscure, completely out of use, or trade-specific. Oh yeah, 48@1320. But I have to admit I googled a word or two out of curiosity.. otherwise maybe 45.
