Pratt or Otis.I have got accepted to both and a huge scholarship

Hi guys,

so, I’m in the crossroad between two really good school and don't know how to choose. Pratt and Otis.

Pratt I have gotten their presidential scholarship of $10,000 per year i attend.
Otis I have gotten the Ben Maltz memorial scholarship of $11,200 for 08-19 year.

I’m doing Fashion Design. I really wanted to go to Parsons but they wait-list me. Their wait-list is different from other college, for it’s up for another review of the whole profile again. And I have no idea when I will be getting a response and besides, there are two great schools who is offering a great scholarship opportunity.

I was surprise to the acceptance of Pratt because I had a weak SAT score, but I do have a 4.0. It’s seems like to me that the schools I turned in my fashion design sketches accepted me and a huge scholarship. I should have just putted into the Parsons one too. They said they don’t want to see any so I didn’t do it. On the other two schools, they were not as strict of adding extra so I did. Now I wished I should have but too late.

O! Another thing is I live in CA; Otis is still 6 hours away in LA, but still closer than NY. I like CA, but think Pratt can give me a better exposure to fashion since CA is more customer base on fashion design if you know what I mean. And NY is more free your style. Will, I’m not sure what difference would this make in the first year since we don’t even get to our major yet. But I guess I want to know which school can give me a good foundation in art.

I wanted to transfer to Parsons eventually. Which school should I go first? Which one is a easier transfer to Parsons? Any other comments?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!

I cant edit this Thread but....

ADD ON:

Otis has this Mobility Program which provides an opportunity for students from art and design colleges throughout the United States to study for one semester at another member institution. And Parsons School of Design is one of the Participating A.I.C.A.D Mobility Colleges.

would this say, OTIS would have a better chance?

and i just checked, both Otis and Pratt has additing rate of 42% and Parsons this year 50%. werid....

Parsons' Curriculum (BFA)

First Year
Drawing Studio 1 & 2
2D Integrated Studio 1 & 2
3D Studio 1 & 2
Laboratory 1 & 2
Critical Reading & Writing 1 & 2
Perspectives in World Art & Design 1 & 2

Total 18 per sem.

And OTis is 16 for fall and 15 for spring.
can someone help me look if the otis crouse meet the requirement for Parsons PLEASE?
http://my.otis.edu/Registration/Documents/Curricula/Foundation.pdf

what other classes do i need to fill the requirement?
so i need 18 crdit in or to transfer or Otis's credit will do with some extra classes?

sorry guys, i know i ask a lot. but i want to try my best to reach for what i want.

THANK YOU A LOT!!

wow congrats!

I got into Pratt and Otis too....and I got a great amount of money from Otis but I only got 6,000 a year from Pratt...bummer. I REALLY want to go to Pratt. I got into Parsons as well but I have to say that Pratt interests me more.

yeah sorry i didn't help answer your question. buuuut um yeah.

I live in LA and Otis really is a great school I've visited on many occasions and I know that they REALLY prepare you well. One of my friends who goes there said that her friend transfered to Parsons and that at Parsons they don't teach the basics too well and that they just kinda let you go for it...and so she said that going to Otis really made her prepared. I also have a fashion design teacher at school who went to otis and her renderings are so amazing not to mention she can create just about anything with no problems.

soooo yeah. Otis will definitely prepare you. I can't say I know too much about Pratt other than that you are more able to branch out into other forms of art cuz they have electives annnnd well yeah. they also start you off w/ fashion the first year.

i have no idea if anything i just said helped...but i hope it did.

i'm Emily by the way :)
maybe we'll end up going to school together one day. who knows :P

Thank you for the comment on "Pratt or Otis.I have got accepted to ..."
Your comment really did help me becasue you talked about someone you know and now i even wanted to go there more becasue you said Otis prepare the student more compare to Parsons they just let you go. Now i definfitly think i made the right choice. and hopfully i will be able to get into Parsons after my first year ^^

And congrats to you too!!
good for you!
YA! maybe we will end up going to the same school together if you chose Otis, casue i'm going there. ya, Pratt, well, even they are REALLY ex*****ve. even thought they gave me 10,000 per year and it is still! and besides, you know Otis well and it is the best of the west! so, why not go there since you also got a scholarship and you live there in LA too, so you will save some money for your future NYC college life (^^). you got into it once and there well be no problem for you to get into it twice, besides, after Pratt sees your work again, they may gave you even more scholarships!

i'm Shuya, it's my real name ;)
hope we can become friends if you don't mind.

i posted this on the thread and send you a message just in case:)
