I’m a future international undergraduate student. I got offer of industrial design from Pratt but no scholarship. And I got offer from MassArt with 40,000 dollars for four years. I’m struggling with these two schools. I wish to know that is MassArt a lot cheaper than Pratt and any other elements to consider
MassArts is a lot cheaper because it is a state school. Meaning the taxes of the residents of Massachusetts go to running the school and it is a great economic value for any one who’s a resident of the state (and they give additional aid if you’re in New England). The fact that they gave you a lot of aid is great - they usually don’t have much money to give so it means they really want you.
I visited there with my daughter and she really liked the school but got a better aid offer (we’re from a state that wouldn’t have gotten any discount) from another college. So I can’t tell you much about the program other than we were very impressed with the studios and liked the general ‘vibe’ of the school and the work we saw displayed.
Also, it’s in a culturally rich part of the city - the Museum of Fine Arts is down the street, the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum is right around the corner. You’ve also got several colleges all in that one area so it’s a vibrant, young part of the city. You’re also not very far from NYC to take a day or weekend trip into the city via train or bus.
We also recently visited Pratt with my younger child and liked it too. It has much more of a traditional US college campus (many buildings all around quad areas). MassArts instead is just a few high rise buildings right in the city.
Hope this helps!
