Hi. I'm really struggling to decide where to transfer for my Sophomore year.
My main question is how does NYU Steinhardt's School of Studio Art compare to Pratt (I'd be in Pratt's Communications Design-Illustration program), and also what access I'll have to Steinhardt as a student in Gallatin at NYU.

While I am primarily interested in pursuing visual art, at Pratt I won't be able to minor in any of my academics interests. I'm specifically interested in creative writing and education, but not necessarily art education. Also, since I spent my freshman year at a liberal arts school with a drastically different core, I'll need another 4 years to graduate Pratt (a commitment I'm willing to make, but would rather not have to).

Gallatin seems like a perfect fit for me academically, and I'm ecstatic that I got in. I've been assured I'll be able to create a Visual Art/Creative Writing Interdisciplinary Major there, and that I'll have access to classes at NYU Steinhardt for Studio Art. I'm just not clear on how much access, and how that experience holds up to Pratt.

One note that scares me, from the Gallatin Cross Registration w/ Steinhardt Guide is:
"Finally, there are some courses that are only open to art majors, regardless of space availability, including all 'Fundamentals' courses."
Does "art majors" mean Steinhardt-students-only? What are these "Fundamental" courses?

Thank you so much for whatever help you can give!
