I'm running half a marathon tomorrow. I'm 17 and 6'3"... 270lbs. Never run more than three miles. But whatevv. Just gonna go out there and do it. Wish me luck. I'll report back when I'm done.

Good luck!

Forgot to post…
I did it. All 13.1 without a day of practice. Needless to say, it was hell. Every movement hurts. Don’t attempt.

congrats! i’m planning to run it with my sister and dad this march. where did you run it?

There’s a park by where I live with a one mile trail. Just ran around that 13 times lol. The first 10 are a blur. It’s the last 3 that kill you.

I’m not saying this in a religious way, but may you be blessed in your marathon and whatever you do, and good luck!!! The mind is the greatest barrier, but also your greatest friend: positive internal motivation will keep your legs, lung, and heart going. :)

Thanks
By the time I hit 11, I knew I couldn’t quit even if I crawled to the end. And today I can barely walked, but my pride holds me up one hundred feet high.

haha aww!!

but seriously. how is this humanly possible when i can’t even run the mile in gym class? i mean i don’t eat right and i’m relying on my teenageness to keep me from getting fat, but i can’t be that out of shape…

Honestly man, I’m probably more out of shape then you. I wear like size 38 waist and an XL shirt. If I can do it, you can do it.

haha, i’m a girl, but it’s not that i’m “out of shape.” i just have no endurance. and i have a very low pain threshold. everyone else in my family is athletic, though. so maybe if i really tried… no. not even then lol.

but congrats on your accomplishment!

Mostly a mind thing. People’s minds give out long before their actual body does (as in thinking you can’t do it). Your mind tricks your body into thinking you can’t go any further.

@CE527M, definitely sounds like me

I have fond (well, maybe not fond…) memories of my track coach yelling at us at the top of his lungs, “It’s all in your mind! Keep going; you can go farther! It’s all about your MIND, not your BODY!”

Anyhow, congrats kdswish!

Thanks guys!
So I’m still in so much pain but all I can think about it training for the full one. It’s additive lol!

And clemtines, you can do it. Carboload the night before, drink tons of water and get plenty of sleep. You can easily do it. Try doing like 3 first and then work up

O.o maybe I’ll try it some day… but probably not

Why not? Gives a good feeling of accomplishment :)
