Hey again, everyone. I see that the completion of a “pre-advising worksheet” is required before orientation. Am I supposed to physically receive one to complete, or is there somewhere online that I’m supposed to do it? My orientation is a transfer session on June 23rd. Thanks!
It should be in your myusc portal with other things on the checklist. I advise setting up your classes/schedule on the worksheet as much as you can so you are not at their mercy in class selection. Of course they can help guide you, but if you can figure it out for the most part, orientation sign up will go really fast and you won’t have regrets when done. Good luck!
Thank you, Cadreamin! I found the Pre-Advising Worksheet but it only asked me for my AP scores and transfer coursework. Are you recommending setting up my schedule in the Web Registration Tutorial instead?
My students just went through the fall schedule ahead of time and actually worked out their own schedule on a piece of paper. For example, the orientation folks like to emphasize taking GEs early on, where as they wanted to get into major classes asap to see if they liked it, and could adjust/change their direction quicker if necessary. One did change from EE to CS for example because he took more science classes than they would have had him take those first couple semesters so he knew within the first semester what he wanted versus it taking longer. If you need math and you know which one, that is a good one to check rate my professor ahead of time. Similarly with any required writing (140 or 340) good to look at reviews on those profs, they are pretty accurate. You really want good math and good writing profs. I forget, what is your major?
So they each had a schedule pretty much figured out when they went to orientation, and yes they made some changes at orientation, but not big or costly ones. And because we went over a lot of options beforehand, they had a list of professors to take and to avoid in their notes. That came in really handy. Also, watch the prerequisite chain for some classes, like in business, econ is key to take early, that kind of thing.
@CADREAMIN Hi…your advice to build your own schedule before orientation is helpful. How can you check professor reviews? thanks

Like any online reviews, some are extreme but overall they are pretty on target generally speaking.
