I've heard some friends say that Pre-Calc is harder than AP Calc AB, and from what I've seen at my school, I am starting to believe that is true. At my school, the class finishes the book a month before the AP test and spends an entire month reviewing.

I'm entering AP Calc, and if pre-calc really is easier, then I'll be stoked.

well think about it. it's PRE-cal, therefore it couldn't really be harder than actual calculus. haha. but yeah calc is harder than pre-cal, esp once you get passed calc ab.

I don't know how this can even be discussed here. Precalculus varies so much from school to school. Obviously the pre-cal. some people take will be harder / easier than AP Calculus. After all, AP Calculus is a bit more... standardized?

I'm gonna say sth that's not gonna help. They r both easy but calc is easier. precalc just had too much hw. calc on the other hand is a 15 minute before school assignment. ;)

I think that differential calculus is easier than precal, however, once you get into integrals, infinite series, trig substitution bla bla bla, i think it becomes much harder than precal.

It also depends on how much content your Algebra II course covered. But in general, there is so much overlap between Algebra II and Pre-Calculus that if you're proficient in Algebra II, you'll come to considerPre-Calc a waste of time (I certainly did and I'm not that intelligent) unless your Pre-Calc class is exceptionally well taught and introduces topics outside the standard Algebra II curriculum such as proofs or intros to combinatorics, abstract algebra(groups, rings, fields), or proofs (or simply has some very hard problems). Unfortunately, many Pre-Calc classes just cover the textbook and inevitably review far too much Algebra II material.

I know some people who went straight from Algebra II to Calculus.

At my school, the best math students go Algebra II ->Trig/analytic geometry->ap calc AB. Trig/analyt is considered by nearly all to be the hardest class in the school. Far harder than ap calc. Just to show that it varies from school to school.
