Pre-Calc vs. Trigonometry

Ok, I signed up for Precal (or, rather, my teacher placed me in). I doubt that I will drop out, but what are the differences between these two classes, really? For example, does precal include a lot of stuff that trig covers? I checked out this precal book and like 10 chapters are trig, since trig is naturally a very short class.

So, are there really any differences between these two?

I don't know how to answer this; but our school requires pre-calc before trig...

So it's
Geometry
Algebra II
Pre-Calc
Trig
AP Calculus

So how come alot of schools have Trig after AlgebraII?
or
Algebra II
Trig
Pre-Calc
AP calculus

Well, for my school (and some of the nearby ones) the schedule is like this:
Geo.
Algebra II
Precal (if you got a high B or an A in Alg II0
Trig (if you didnt meet the Precal prerequisites)
AP Calc

I personally don't understand it, and neither do my parents. They told me that when they went to high school, they took Trig/Analytical Geo. which at my school is only given to students who didn't do well in Algebra II. And if that precal book had everything Trig did (im not sure abt the analytical geo. tho), I dont really see any point at all.

Our Precalc Honors class overs Trig, actually much of Precalc is trig indentities and things that has to do with trig.

At my school, Trig is taught along with Honors Alg II so it goes something like this:

Geometry
AlgII or H.AlgII/Trig
Pre-Cal

I already took Trig, it was eeeasssy

Ha, so if I do well in pre-calc, wil I do a terrific job in Trig?

At my school, we have the following and there is NO skipping or testing out...

Alg I
Alg II (honors & regular)
Geometry (honors & regular)
Trig (honors & regular)
PreCalc (honors only)
AP Calc AB & AP Calc BC (same class but can take whatever test you want)

i learned trig in algebra 2. in fact, the math class i took was "algebra 2/trig"... the material (i think) was pretty basic... we'd probably learn more in precalc.

We don't even have a Trig.. We basically do that in pre-calc.

Yeah, I agree with Knavish. Trig is supposed to be one of the sections in our precalc course.

We have algebra, geometry, algebra II. Then the "lower math" kids go precalculus then math analysis then AP calc AB. The "higher math" kids go to trig/analytic geometry (which is supposedly one of the hardest classes in the school) and then straight to AP calc AB. Our school doesnt offer BC.

Like a few people who have already posted, Algebra II/Trig is one class at my school - a prerequesite for Precalculus (which is the same as Math Analysis here...) and AP Stats.

The concepts are pretty simple, I just have problems with the memorization. =p

At my school you can take a geo/trig class which will allow you to go to straight to calculus. However if you take a geo class you have to take pre-calc before calculus. I took geo/trig and had a choice to either go to pre-calc or calc...I chose to take pre-calc because I thought it would help me for calculus. Following that I then took calculus and I found that taking pre-calc was a waste of my time...I regret not taking calculus in the first place.

Math order:
Algebra II
Geo or Geo/trig
Pre-calculus
Calculus AB
Calculus BC

wow...well, at my school, if you are a high math student, you go to precal, and if you didnt do as well, you go to trig. so, for many of you, trig was covered in precal, then? what abt analytical geo.?

yeah...my school does not manadate trig to be taken... goes like this

alg1,geo,alg2, precalc,AB (trig is optional)

Alg, Geo, Alg2, Precalc, Calc

You don't have to take trig. Honestly, why the heck would you want to?

For us Trig is combined with Alg 2 and Precalc. It's kind of weird to make a new class for just Trig.
