Hey guys, I am in the process of planning out my course schedule for the 2009 academic year so I can feasibly graduate on time, and I am considering taking a Pre-Calculus and Calculus course over the summer at NYU, just because a) I'm not looking to stay in Baltimore over the summer b) I'm going to be interning in NYC and c) I am not a Fields Medal recipient and don't want to be slaughtered at Hopkins.

Does anyone have any experience with taking Pre-Calculus and Calculus at NYU, either during the regular academic year or during the summer? How are the professors? Are TA's semi-decent? Work load reasonable?

Any feedback you may have is greatly appreciated!

Daughter took calculus during the summer at NYU as part of her program. She was placed in calc based on an exam she had to take for placement. This program was prepatory for the rigorous calculus she would be taking. She is now a freshman at NYU and doing very well in calculus. She actually likes her professors and she has met with them on a number of occasions. They seem to be acessible. I'm not sure how large her classes are, but I know her chemistry class has 600 students. BTW, are you going to Hopkins? D was accepted but opted for NYU. Hopkins even offered her more money.

I think it's a terrible idea to take both pre-calc and calc at the same time. It's too much to remember, and will be too hard to fit into a schedule when you're already interning.

Some schools actually have 2 summer terms. I was able to complete General Bio 2, Org chem 1, and Org chem 2 this way all in one summer. (yep, 3 lab courses--busy, but more fun than it might seem).

Hey guys, thanks for the helpful responses, I apologize I'm just replying today, it's been a bit busy on my end.

MilkandSuger, I don't mind a large class, I'm already used to the typical pre-med science weeder courses with 200+ students, lol. Yes, I attend Hopkins, but I'm a true NY'er at heart and miss the city incredibly!

Wallflower, as eg1 mentioned, I would take Pre-Calculus first during Summer Session I, followed by Calculus during Summer Session II. ;) My internship is flexible, I can come and go as I please. :D

Eg1, did you take labs along with the orgo lectures? That's a tough courseload, lol, I'm glad you survived!
